Whats going on orcon, dns seems down, returning recursive results only very sporadically.

Also, i tried emailing you (commercial support) and get:

550 5.7.1 <premiumsupport@orcon.net.nz>... Relaying denied. Proper authentication required.

550 5.7.1 <technical@orcon.net.nz>... Relaying denied. Proper authentication required.

Not really inspiring much confidence here....

At least you answered the phone when I called.

You could look at using Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or Opendns with 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 if you want something to tide you over until they fix their problem.

There had been an ongoing issue with the process crashing on the primary DNS resolvers. When you saw this the resolvers were being replaced with new virtual servers running a later code version. The email, will need to investigate that one. The whole DNS platform for Orcon/Slingshot is being heavily upgraded/distributed over the coming months.

Just remember, using generic DNS will reduce your overall performance as you no longer get the closest caches for things like Youtube. The issue with Orcon's DNS was rectified, and a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to ensure the Orcon (and Slingshot) DNS resolvers are of the highest quality.

this is an ongoing issue, hopefully gets resolved soon.. does the DNS server gets ddoss or something? Why not restrict it to orcon clients only?

It's gotten so bad I have set secondary dns to some public dns server in Australia.. just goes down from time to time for no apparent rhyme or reason

I have been getting DNS issues as well. It seems to be OK if the Orcon DNS server address is added to the NIC setup. Bit more time needed to verify this, though.

Could the snafu be in the router (NF4V) as I got issues with the router/gateway address added to the NIC setup and once a page was borked, it couldn't be got back with a retry.

Anyway, going with adding in the DNS address to the NIC to see if that really is a solution.
