@danza HD voice calling was launched years ago this is not new

Huh, guess I just never noticed as it’s mostly mobile-landline calls.

It's hard notice often, as your dependent on the other end. eg, cross connect, device support etc...

what's your DSL connection like? is it possible your only on adsl and have cloud software in the background running?

by default any built in QOS (if any) for your router, likely won't handle QOS for VoLTE.

Edit - No QOS running on default Spark router, its to dumb(I couldn't be bothered) and no QOS running on Mikrotik (Its to smart for me)

I've resorted to swiping down and turning off wifi to avoid using it to make calls however I often forget to turn it back on again. Perhaps the implementation of a quick access wifi calling switch can be considered.

As you have already noticed in games, It can studder, jitter or lag a bit.

The same affect will happen to phonecalls.

Depending on phone, it is possible it could possibly be automated to be toggled using the likes of tasker - i understand this may not work without root on Samsungs though.

As for cloud software, cloud storage is exactly what i was getting at! random file syncs as your on a call, BAM. distortion...

The flipside of VoWiFI is well, it relies on having a stable connection.

You can get better router that can do QoS to prioritize voip traffic or deprioritize bulk traffic.

Or a fast enough router with inherently low buffer bloat eg. even when you are maxing out your line speed, your latency will go up by around 20~30ms at most.

Anyone know what the deal is with the 'no imported phones' rule in the 2D info?

"If you bought your phone from a parallel importer or from overseas, then it is not compatible and cannot be upgraded."

I get that the local 2D store isn't going to want to touch an imported phone, but I can't see why it isn't possible to get them working. I'd be happy to flash my own phone if I could get hold of the phone firmware image, or whatever 'software' is required.

@SamF I flashed by S8+ purchased in OZ with 2Degrees firmware using Odin and Wi-Fi calling works fine

This is great news, and it's sure to win 2degrees some new customers like me.

I have zero coverage on all networks at home. Sure Signal is the only thing currently tying me to Vodafone - it's the only practical way I can use my mobile at home.

I'll be looking to switch multiple phones to 2degrees when this is available for iPhone, and I'll probably switch my broadband over at the same time.

@Rushmere Sure Signal still has many advantages over Wi-Fi calling as it's not limited to certain handsets like Wi-Fi calling, Vodafone Sure Signal as long as the handset supports 3G 2100Mhz it will just work and visitors can use it as well
