Hey,
SlingShot customer here. I have 2 questions.

Firstly, at about 4:30pm today I started getting problems with international connectivity (e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc) but local websites (e.g. TradeMe) were working fine. It's resolved now, just curious if this was SlingShot or if my modem is shotty!

Secondly, I'm getting reasonable speeds but as per other customer's feedback, I was just wondering if there was any way my connection could be faster... as you can see below, I'm getting about 11mbps on my fs/fs connection.. I'm not very far from the exchange either!

Hi There

Yes around 3:30pm yesterday we experienced issues with our international link, this was resolved around 4pm.

Could you PM me your account and ill have a look at your line stats, if you already have a 12mbit connection or around there I would say you have the best your line can get.

Line has improved overnight, getting good speeds throughout the day now -

Very happy with the outcome, just want to know if the variation in speed is normal,only one PC connected when these tests were done.

Also, one more thing, this morning speedtes.net needle would go straight to 18Mb but now it starts off with 6-7Mb/s and at the end of the test jumps straight to 17-18Mb/s, is this normal??

Good to see, The speed will vary a little, above looks ok to me.

Keep an eye on it and let me know if it varies anymore than this or if there are any other issues,

Hey,

We recently moved house, we were originally on the legacy naked DSL 25GB + off-peak 2-8am plan, when requesting a move, they advised us that they may move us over to the new 30GB naked DSL plan - off-peak, I asked for this not to happen as we utilize the off-peak data! Now we are on the 30GB plan, still under contract with Slingshot, so I thought we would at least have our legacy plan to the end of our agreed contract, since that is the service we subscribed to?

I was wanting to have a look at testing out http://www.unblock-us.com but it told me after setting it up, that there was a transparent proxy by my ISP stopping it from working. Is there any way that I can turn this off to get this to work?

There was a list of ISPs that will not work with unblock-us, including Telstra NZ, but Slingshot wasn't on the list.

Go onto your account:

"My Internet" --> "Internet Cache Settings" --> Turn this off

EDIT: I forgot restart your router, you may need to leave it off for 5min

At the moment im getting really slow speeds 120KB/s from my seedbox FTP which i can always download from at 2.2MB/s. On the unlimited plan which has always gone at full speed.

I've rebooted modem and the line speeds are good
Up Stream
1009 (Kbps.)
Down Stream
22038 (Kbps.)

Ive checked seedbox and that's working correctly (although ive contacted seedbox admin and waiting to hear back)

You should really check your int'l speeds against other sources as well. ISP's wont really action anything like that sort of problem, small route problems are just the nature of the internet - especially if a switch or router somewhere along the way is faulted and one of the jumps has stepped down to an alt route.

Hi Altron,

Trace looks ok, As Jarsky says we cannot overly troubleshoot d/l speeds from your seedbox but if you could do some generic speed tests and some nat/int downloads to see if everything is effected we can go from there,

If you PM me your account details i can start looking at things from this end to make sure nothing is out of place,

Also getting ~500KB/s from my dedicated server via ftp, previously went line speed. Nat speeds are fine

Different provider though, ovh. Presumably it's the shaping during peak as www from the same box goes line speed

As most people know Slingshot apply traffic prioritisation to all types of traffic.

Attended traffic types like Browsing, Skype/VoIP, Email are set at high level.
Attended traffic we classify as traffic that a user needs NOW not wait for it, for example Skype would not work if we did not prioritise it.

Non-Attended traffic such as HTTP Downloads, FTP, P2p are set at a low levels these are types of traffic that we believe the user can wait longer to get.
