Ok, So I am going to sign up to this tomorrow. My one question is:

If I sign up to this and decide after the 12 months I don't like Slingshot I can exit and I will have only paid the $10 delivery fee of the phone? Is that correct? (Obviously I will pay extra per month if I use more than 20 mins of calling or 100 txts)

Dear Slingshot. A few questions please:

1. Is there any way for people to check their remaining free 20 min calling and free 100 TXT allocation either from the phone or online?

2. Voicemail access is "20c per access" - does calling voicemail affect your free 20 min calling allocation? Will calling voicemail while you still have 20 min free calling reduce your free calling allocation, and if so will it go down by 1 min PER ACCESS, or will it go down based on how long you are on the voicemail call for?

Thanks again and hope you are ok after your building evacuation!

No worries - yes we're all ok :)

1. Yes via Visibill - please note there is up to a 48 hour billing delay with us.

2. No it will not effect your free 20 min

Edit: Rang up, got a very helpful call center staff member who knew what he was talking about and the process took less than 10 minutes. Am now on the plan.

Just a quick question:
The 25c/mb data charge - does that reset each day or does your usage accumulate over the month?

Yeah I want to know how they charge for casual data. Was charged $0.25 but used less than a MB of data.

Has anyone debranded their 2730 yet sucessfully? I have changed the product code to several from a list I found of generic one (was on the voda nz one of 0590869)- but none that I choose will let the nokia updater put the newer software on it, just telling me that its not available.

Was a breeze on the N80, N95 etc, but this has me stumped. Any pointers?

I just changed the theme off "Vodafone". That was good enough for me!

nokia site says that latest is 09.41 for it, I have 7.70 on it, that has to be worth getting.

Plus it still has a vodafone live icon and a vodafone startup animation which I would like gone too.

Can't help on startup. Are you referring to VF Live in the menu or on the main screen? I was able to reassign the right hand button (default VF Live) to something more useful for a family member's phone.

P.S. Once again a great offer Slingshot, and I'm running out of people to recommend it to. Everyone I haven't spoken to seems to be on Vodafone so win-win-win-profit??

Although I wasn't going to talk about this deal I felt I should let others know how I went on.

Called up on the 8th of March at 12:45 to take up the deal on behalf of 2 younger siblings (I have had them on accounts for years and it is fine, know all the risks etc).  Spent  15 minutes on the phone with one guy (10 of those trying to make the computer accept my password apparently).  In that time we got one phone up and running.  I asked to get the 2nd one activated, he said he was going to have to get his colleague to call me back 'in a minute or 2'.  Ok I thought.  10 mins later got a call back from him saying that he had finished for the day, and would get a call back soon 'soon as'.  In the 10 mins he could have easily set it up himself but oh well.

An hour and a half later finally got a call back.  Couldn't take it as was in a lecture (there was a reason I called when I did).  when I called back the helpful lady sorted it in 5 mins.  All good it seemed.

Next day I got a call from the credit department saying I could not opt to pay by bill at post shop as I was told, and would have to fill in a direct debit form.  As I have credit history with no issues, I figured it was because I ordered 2 phones.  I have since learnt of friends who ordered 2 or more without having to fill in  a form.  So got the form and sent it back.  A week after posting it I hadan't heard anything so called them, they confirmed they had the form but hadn't processed it.  fair enough, they were pressumable overun by people signing up.

A few days later got an email saying one phone had been dispatched.  It has shown up.  There is however no sign of the sim card for it, so it is of no use.  Told no idea when it would come, should be 'soon'.

Got an email today saying 2nd phone had been shipped, but it was a 2630 not a 2730.  So when that finally arrives I will need to organise to get it replaced.  And also no indication as to when that sim card would arrive.

So will have to call them again today to sort out this 2630.  Annoying part is that I know people who had their phone(s) within days, and 2 weeks have passed and I only have 1 (unusable) one

The question is then, is it worth all this effort?

The "effort" is just having to get past the Slingshot call centre.

Some say that they have improved, but I'd only give them a solid 6/10 in my dealings with them. 12/10 for the higher level support that has to pick up the pieces.

I have offered a lot of feedback to Slingshot not as a complaint but in the hope that it helps them improve their CS for their own benefit.

Was it worth saving some family members and friends a hell of a lot of money?

Hell yes!

Free phone, and they now have one of the cheapest mobile rates in New Zealand (25c/min all-networks any time after the first 20 included minutes), and 100 free TXTs to boot. They'll actually be able to use their PHONE for PHONE calls now!

After the initial hoop jumping (although I've heard of people have a much smoother journey), the phones work as advertised. Just pray you don't have to phone customer service I guess?

Ive had a seamless experience with their customer service, although i did sign on later in the campaign. Am a little disappointed in phone - i was expecting a similar phone to my nokia 3120, however the 2730 is a bit clunky and has a slow UI. But its a free phone...
