Just as an aside, Vodafone launched their new broadband network - I wonder if Mark Rushworth has been reading this thread...?

Here is a direct quote:

I doubt additional hardware can be ordered and deployed in one day. This was explainged in the XNET forum - there is planning, purchase, delivery, testing, switching to new hardware. Mark Rushworth is Head of Marketing, not the CTO.

Sounds like an unachievable empty promise to me. Did he used to be a politician?

Why? Just because it is Telecom?

AFAIK Telecom/Xtra published an apology for Xtra Go Large and offered a refund. Then it did offer a refund for the Bubble.

I didn't see or read about other ISPs (Woosh comes to mind) offering anything - not even an explanation - to users affected by their problems.

well its 8:30pm and ive been kicked from the AoC server 3 times in 15 mins from latency spikes. Considering its a USA west coast server this would not appear to be their fault (in view of the time over there at present). I never used to have this problem with any other game/USA server, and other ppl from the game arent having the DC that im having in AoC (hence not server side). Anyone else finding lag spikes still prevailing?
(nb. I haven't been having any DC earlier in the day from AoC either, so nothing wrong with my hardware/software)

Yea same here, speeds haven't really increased

The only thing that by the looks of it has changed is your "layer 7" thingy, the thing that prioritizes the traffic.

As torrents used to go at 2-5 KB/s if i was lucky at this time, but now they go at 30-50KB/s, maybe thats just because there is more "bandwidth..?"

But anyway I don't use torrents much so that doesn't really worry me, it's the normal downloads that do.

Back 6 weeks ago I could download a file at max speed, regardless of the time of day, but now I just done a 500MB update on my MacBook Pro and it downloaded at about 100-200KB/s it never settled at a speed, it kept jumping all over the place from 20KB/s to 100, 50, 200, 25, 150 and so on, it looks like the speed picks up then drops then picks up and drops again and again.

Ill upload a little video of what was happening.

Oh and I downloaded these files again:

9:25pm here in Dunedin and I'm getting around 10 KB /sec on all of your geekbomb test files.

Earlier Speedtests have moved up slightly to around 300kb/s, still not looking great.

Installed XP SP3 yesterday, so double checked on my iBook and the speedtests came back all about the same.

Here's Melbourne at 9:30pm -

Sure it's 300kbps better than last night, but its still obviously nowhere near what it was last month:

Wow... The work finished at 3am, but as early as 10pm the previous night people were complaining already.

It is not simple like "flick a switch and all is done". Things take time.

Very disappointing of you geeks who have shown this behaviour. Give the guys some credit, they are working hard to make sure things work.

I clicked reply before I saw Thomas' message, but even so, as far as I am concerned the problem has not been fixed - it's now been over 24 hours later. Should I be more patient? This whole thing is the reason I've been losing faith by the second. As others have said, MSN, Ventrilo and games have been unusable for over a month now (I've had constant MSN disconnects every 5-10 mins during peak hours for the last 2-3 months).

Call me a whiner, call me impatient, say my connection is "good" enough, but as far as I am concerned it's not and I won't be happy until it is. Slingshot summed it up nicely "FLICK your ISP". I'm definetely looking at moving over to Slingshot, TelstraClear or XNet at this stage. Harsh as it may sound, and maybe its just me, but I don't think everything turns to custard (and by custard, I mean 25% of the speeds I used to get and now expect) and flounders about at this level of service for several weeks with other ISPs. I remember many people complaining about XNet's international speed issues around the same time as Orcon's problems arose, however most of their issues seem to have been fixed weeks ago?

My line stats:
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 160 / 8.128
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 2,0 / 11,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 3,0 / 4,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 24,0 / 13,0

There's nothing wrong with those (and they've stayed the same since I've been in this house for several years now)

This speedtest confirms what I already knew:

Orcon is more than capable of supplying these speeds, they just can't do it during peak time. They claim to have upgraded the bandwidth, but I'm only seeing another 300kbps. Where is the other 3000? Is a further upgrade planned? Should I even bother waiting for it? Could be my exchange, but I doubt it as the speedtest last month in the above post was taken at approximately the same time in the evening shows a good 3000kbps.

Even my NZ speed is faster off peak then it was on peak, I thought they would be able to handle NZ traffic... maybe not :(

But my International speed still isn't as fast as my NZ speed is (off peak)

Looking forward to see what Orcon has planned for us.
