I've noticed that "Wi-Fi calling on iCloud connected devices" as Apple calls it isn't supported. Is this something 2degrees enables or Apple? It'd be nice to be able to use the watch or iPad to make/receive a call even if the phone's battery dies.

Would love to know this one as well. Was very curious when I read that.

Must be a 2D decision as Apples website says they support it?

https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT203032

Make and receive Wi-Fi calls from another device

If your carrier supports Wi-Fi Calling on iCloud-connected devices, you can also make and receive Wi-Fi calls on other devices. You can use Wi-Fi Calling on these devices, even if your iPhone isn't on the same Wi-Fi Network or turned on:
iPad or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later
Apple Watch with watchOS 2 or later
Mac (2012 or later model) with OS X El Capitan

IKE (tunnel setup) is UDP 500 and then UDP 4500 for IPSec main tunnel when behind a NAT. Your router must properly handle UDP NAT - you'll have to have one that does stateful connection tracking. I have an NF4V but I only use it as a PPPoE modem, not a router, so I can't comment on whether they can be configured appropriately or not.

You shouldn't need to open the ports specifically to an IP address, but the IPSec gateway is 118.149.14.20.

Thanks for this information but it appears that Orcon may have something either in its modum/router or system setup that is causing the problem and preventing me from overcoming it. When I try setting up port triggering in Orcon's NF4V I get the message 'Add port triggering failed'. This message comes up whether I use customerised values or those from one of the applications in the drop down menu.

I think things may be getting off topic with this as it is appears to be an Orcon problem rather than a 2 Degrees wifi calling problem so I will start a new topic.

lokeynz's link that effectively said to check what ALGs were ticked unfortunately did not help as all the ALGs are ticked. Thanks all the same for your time lokeynz.

'Wifi calling on other devices' is not the same as VoWifi (ala 2degrees). The 'Wifi calling on other devices' still uses the original phone to receive calls - but it also alerts other Apple devices on the same Wifi and they can be used to receive the call. It does not allow you to use an iPad, iPod or Watch as a completely independent device. FWIW, I turned it off as I found it annoying.

In any case, it has nothing to do with 2degrees. :-)

Yes and no - per the above quote "Wifi calling on iCloud-connected devices" allows you to make Wi-Fi calls on other devices even if your iPhone isn't on the same Wi-Fi Network or turned on (emphasis mine), so this implies each device communicates directly back to the mothership. That's per https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT203032

There is as well what you're referrring to which is Continuity (https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT204681#phone), that's what we know and love today.

Apple stuff is so simple eh 😛

I've been waiting for my 2Degrees supplied Galaxy S7 Edge to get WiFi calling and twice now, the expected release date has been pushed further away. Instead of late April, it's now late May. I can tell you, I'm really disappointed, especially with the crap coverage where I live. I've been with you guys from the beginning, but it's getting harder to justify the loyalty.

Can someone there tell me why you keep pulling the release date away? Is there some way I can get it earlier?

The release I'd suspect is tied to a software update - my Note 8 got it alongside Oreo. I suspect the S7E Oreo update will also enable wifi calling, however it will need to be the nzc carrier pacakge.

Here we go again. embarassed

The given date for WiFi calling for the 2D supplied Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge has yet again been broken, and it's no longer the end of May. This would be about the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. Now the 2Degrees site states "Unfortunately, we cannot commit to a timeframe for this device. We will update this page as soon as we have more information."

Please @SaltyNZ    @2DegreesCare or someone else from 2D, could you please advise why this keeps happening, and what the delay is? As a very loyal long term customer, please give me some hope.....

Is it because of Oreo update delays?

@2DegreesCare might know, but I do not, no; handsets are not really my area. Sorry!

Hi @Spong

The delay for WiFi Calling on the Samsung Galaxy S7 is solely due to the delay in us getting the Android 8 upgrade to test. It is our highest priority Android 8 upgrade and as soon as we get the software from Samsung we will get it straight into testing. Apologies for the delay.

Thanks,

^POB

2degrees Wi-Fi calling has worked fantastic while I was in Taiwan for 5 days.

When coming home via Hong Kong the Wi-Fi calling did not work at the airport but that is not a 2degrees issue

Just got prompted to enable this using iPhone on 2Degrees. Seems I'm behind the times, I hadn't been prompted for an update before and keep my iPhone 7 up to date with iOS updates. Should be good when overseas.

Great news!! The Android 8 upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is now available over the air and allows users to enable WiFi Calling.

Enjoy!
