Nothing can be done about the monthly prices I'm afraid. If you ask nice enough on sign up they might be able to hook you up with something special for the first month or so but otherwise that stuff is set in stone.

Really want to know the model and make of the modem / router Slingshot is offering for VDSL.

Hopefully a BCM chipset.
IPv6 support.
IPv6 firewall.
Gigabit switch module.
QoS.
FXS port.
SNRM tweaking.
Detailed line stats.
VPN
Custom routing table entries.
DHCP
DHCPv6
DHCP binding
MAC filtering

Wifi (a,b,g,n,ac) would be nice, but I worry about all in one platforms which often end up with a bucket load of issues.

Hey Crusader, so from further pressing I've got some more info for you and yes, we do have model numbers.

Here's the user manual for the VDSL modem - http://help.slingshot.co.nz/ci/fattach/get/206463/1384743600/redirect/1/filename/VB104W%20VDSL%20User%20Manual.pdf

And here's the one for the Fibre modem - http://help.slingshot.co.nz/ci/fattach/get/206464/1384743813/redirect/1/filename/TriplePlay150_User%20Manual.pdf

So, I don't suppose there is even an inkling when the naked plans will be out? I feel completely let down as I've been waiting months for VDSL to finally go live and when it does, it doesn't include me.

I paid Slingshot $130 for an ATA for iTalk. Going back to POTS seems both stupid and redundant.

Replace "let down" with "disappointed and now considering other ISPs" and that's how I feel.

IPv6 Support + DHCPv6   :D

This is a very feature rich little box!
Also MLD support which I have not yet seen in a consumer grade box.

Very nice.

Only downside is 100Mbps switchports.  :(
I have a gigabit switch on order anyway, so wont matter.

Hmm, only thing with Telecom is the pings are a bit higher, so not as desirable for gaming.

That's something I've never understood: devices with features that make it seem like more than just a modem with a switch tacked on, only to ruin the impression by including a 100Mbit switch.

VDSL cant go faster than 100MBps anyway so it doesnt make much difference.

Hasn't got much to do with VDSL. Sending files around the house on anything less than 1gbps drives me crazy. I have a netbook with only 100mbps and it sucks.

Basically if you do a lot of internal transferring you're going to want to buy a switch with 1gbps.

agreed, so buy a seperate switch and there is no problem here :P

for a $20 modem thats pretty dam good, just one of the things they had to sacrifice to make it so cheap, fine by me. you could always buy a fritz box if you really want gigabit ports on your modem/router all in one

That's a real pity.  I was waiting for Slingshot to come out with their VDSL plans as I wont get UFB until 2015-16, and Chorus won't be providing VDSL in the interim.  When I heard that the VDSL wholesale price had been dropped to that of ADSL I thought great, I may be able to get VDSL with Slingshot using your better network gear for around the same price as ADSL.

But to see fibre and ADSL at the same price, with the interim VDSL option at a much higher price, means no go for me, and I assume others in the same boat.

I am interested to see what will happen when a someone picks the 100/50 UFB plan and gets given the 'triple play' router.
Fairly certain the WAN port is only 10/100...
