Righto, shut down everything, first started ONT and waited for solid light, then modem and each switch yadda yadda yadda.

Re-did the same tests from PC and got same results.

Plugged laptop directly into router (P750, i7m, 8GB ram, about 3 years old mid/high end) and got almost identical results, actually slightly less, both up/down speeds were down by 10Mbps.

So does this now mean that narrows it down to either modem issue, enable's set-up of the line or something else?

If the laptop at 3yo is capable of 200. Do you have any AC devices and is the router AC? Just that you can easily get 200 over AC if close, just another test. If you were given a router that can do 200 for your 200 connection, it shouldn't be that.

To others, how much is the loss going via switches etc? My now 100/20 is 95 due to that, used to be a tickle over 100, and a tickle over 200 when on 200 with AC

Using LAN Speedtest (http://totusoft.com/) I was able to test from my desktop to my server going through my gig switch and got 510Mbps write and 438Mbps read. So the PC is definately capable of the speed and the D-Link switch must be OK. I need to swap switches and test the other but I am pretty sure the results are going to be the same.

As you can see, I cannot break that 140Mbps barrier. Is this normal or has anyone else got faster download speeds on the 200/200 plan?

 

I get 200+ / 200+ on my fibre connection over 802.11ac "AC3200" WiFi. You can see it in my sig....and that isn't the best I've seen.  

I had to get Spark to talk to Chorus because for the first few months my upload speed was stuck at 20mbps despite my having ordered 200 / 200. Turned out they hadn't implemented it properly and after I chased them a bit harder, suddenly my speed came right. 

But I'm in Auckland and using a Spark Speedtest server in Auckland. I've found if I use a Speedtest server operated by someone other than my own ISP the speed drops.....and I assume that's because somewhere between the two networks there is a bottleneck of some kind.

Or maybe 130mbps down is the best you can get. But I'm thinking not, as you can clearly see 200mbps on the uplink. Call them and tell them you've heard of implementation problems and you're not seeing the speed you expected on the downlink....but you are getting it on it on the uplink.......so must be a problem in the implementation.....the fibre can clearly do 200mbps.

Ruled out both my switches and internal cables, I still get 500/500Mbps read/write across the network by plugging into the modem and then testing to a PC that has to go through the modem and then both switches.

It HAS to be an implementation problem. Have raised a ticket for the fault.

When I first originally got fibre I was only getting 30/50 out of my 100/50 plan.. after 6 months Orcon figured out my my router required a firmware upgrade.. after the firmware upgrade I started getting 100/50..  

Might pay to check in with them that your running the correct firmware.

you could also try setting up the LAN port on one of your devices as a WAN port and then speed test as that would prove the connection.

you do realise that your AC3200 AP just has 2x 1300mbps 5ghz wifi networks so you will never get 3200mbps out of it

and looking at your wifi stats your device only suports 867mbps

the only advantage your router provides is if you have say 10+ 5ghz ac capable devices as it will be able to share them over the 2 radios or by having each radio on a seperate SSID

Complete overkill for 99% of residential installs

Pretty sure I have ruled out anything that isn't mine, has to be modem/router or incorrect set up of the connection.

like i suggested you could also setup your PC/Laptop as the "router" by using its LAN port as a WAN port and connecting it to the ONT and setting up the connection info in windows.

that will help rule out the router as the issue, and thats about all you can do from your end.

If I still have not heard anything back about the ticket I raised by tonight I will attempt to give this a try. Is windows capable of this out of the box or would I need specific software?
