It is because Slingshot are using the Vodafone Red Network as it's way to enter the unbundling market. Unbundling is still slowly making progress through the many exchanges in New Zealand.

Ok, I can understand that,
But surley Slingshot could offer the same " Next Big thing " deals to the hole of NZ as Vodafone do with all there plains weather you are in the Red Network or not.

Slingshot aren't large enough to subsidise things in the same way as Vodafone.

As the Red Network rolls out, so will Slingshot's TBNT, in the Slingshot forums thread " The next BIG THING has arrived" it was mentioned that next year will show it poping up in other area's.

My Free Data period has it's linespeed Shaped to 200KBps ldownload. Still I would like to see if this will be the same on the red network.

Slingshot speed test results:
Download Speed: 1279 kbps (159.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 290 kbps (36.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 32 ms

and then

Download Speed: 4686 kbps (585.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 521 kbps (65.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 35 ms

I will do some more test's on my hardware tonight to see of it could be at fault here.

Those plans are bloody impressive. Let's just hope they don't suffer from the same bandwidth issues we've been seeing from some other ISP's.

dear mr general manager (or anyone who can answer this),

i have a couple of questions:

1) why don't everyone get 40gig for $90 regardless of adsl or adsl 2? we in christchurch would love to get this plan on adsl 1!

2) can existing customers opt in the next big thing (i note some previous new plans were not available to then-existing customers) AND without need to sign another 12 month contract?

I want to have this plan.

But apparantly they cant give me ADSL2.

I would love to be able to sign up to this plan now, take full advatange of everything else and then when ADSL2 is ready, have that too.

If only..

The plans look good... But we live at the end of a right of way, and according to Slingshot can't get it. But the house in front of us can. Looks like a mistake to me.

Anyone signed up for this yet?

& Hell one art his man. I was a bit of a brain frat that happened with I was writing a crossword solving program on my Amiga2000.

Slingshot have a thing on their website that tells you if you can connect, but then there is a big problem with changing over, vf -> telecom -> slingshot (two months as they can only change the line once a month), but I think you have be be on slingshot to see the website thingy. New deals are being sorted so that people can change isp without having to go through telecom, that's due Jan
There is also limited lines available as they start the toll out process.
