The device may not be locked but the software you install with the vodem will not let you connect to anyone but vodafone, or at least thats what i found.
My vodom is a ZTE+K3565-Z (prepaid), i found a web site that has full instructions for using the ZTE software instead of the vodafone one, it even includes the drivers and does sms. I am using it in windows XP and Vista.
I found it works perfectly now unfortunatly i can not insert hyperlinks here so take out the spaces between http and // http
Also i would use Revo Uninstaller or at least something better than the windows standard one as the Vodafone software leaves hundreds of files behind if you do a regular program uninstall and in my case prevented the new ZTE program from working until every last drop of the vodafone program had been ripped out, just another reason for me to curse Vodafone.
I have a ZTE Vodem running a 2D SIM. In windows you just set it up as a New Dial-up Modem Number *99# user 2degrees password internet, Connect look at properties to make sure you have selected ZTE USB Vodem and your away.
In Linux it is similar using Network Manager. Works a treat in 2 minutes flat. I have tried it in Windows XP, Kubuntu Linux and Puppy Linux. If your really stuck download puppy linux (130mb) run that online in 5 mintues.
