Bigguy: Comeon guys - stop it with the I hate Orcon thing.

I never once said I hated them and I have not seen anyone else stating the above either.

My issue is that I pay a lot of money for a broadband service, and I am not getting the service that my money is going to.

I am tired of the whole lets be sheep - "She'll be right" mentality.

I've only been with Orcon one month - and they have yet to sort out this problem, that as far as I can see goes way back to January (maybe even longer).

As a consumer, I have every right to explore my options - and using this forum to see other Orcon customer experices allows me to do so.

My comment wasn't directed at you kiwiperls. Someone made the comment earlier and the post either got removed or edited. I do apologise if you felt it was directed at you.

I also agree with what you are saying kiwiperls but, it's not a case of "she'll be right" mentality though. If you re-read my post, I've emailed people who I believe can help (rightly or wrongly) along with having previously made a few support calls.

As a consumer you definitely have every right to explorer your options, as does everyone else. We can do it civilly though - dare I say it, like ladies and gentlemen? (again, not directed at you :))

That's ok. Like I said earlier - got my fingers crossed that Orcon will do more to rectify this situation.

I guess a lot of us on this thread are just so frustrated.

Hubby and I were sooo frustrated when we could not get our WoW fix this weekend. It is one of our hobbies, our thing that we like to do together (geeky couple that we are) but it requires high speed internet..lol

So I guess there will be quite a lot of ranting in regards to Orcon for a while and I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt - but I really do feel that they should compensate users while they find a resolution. Surely they know it is not resolved yet.

I don't know how all this bandwitdh allocation works and the gateway they use(but I know they use a different gateway than Xtra) - but surely - they should get way more than is needed. We all do pay them good money.

newbiejam: Just My 2c here

Since the international bandwith upgrade, everything has been fine except gaming.

I game in a private warcraft3 pvpgn server called "Bored Aussie" in australia. most ppl play there are aussie ppl
I enjoyed hosting and gaming there because of low pings. Hosting is also the reason i got max down/up

So after the international bandwith thingy, Whenever i host, i mass drop other peoples connections. Whenever i join other people's games, I will lag out almost instantly.
I have no idea why it happens. But everything that i have tested points towards orcon's fault.

I have reformatted Windows XP, bought a new modem, changed a new filter. Problem still remains.
The problem also comes during peak times. Again more evidence its not the fault of my end.

Strangely enough, Now my modem says I have ADSL2+ connection with like 15mb down. (with amazing speed test I have never had before, 13mb down during non-peak times)
I live in Dunedin and as far as i know, dunedin is no where close to LLU.
I have also forced my modem to adsl1, problem still the same.

Strangely enough, www.speedtest.net does not reflect the problem I have. I get nice speeds and acceptable speeds during peak times. Only occasionally during peak times, it would give me a 1mb down from aussie. When that happens, I get like more speed with my upload, than download from US test servers.

I have called up and submitted a ticket and hope they can find this fault.

you mate have the same problem as i do. Infact,its pretty much the same! Live in dunedin , i also play on Bored Aussies, basically For me to do ANY gaming , it has to be national..anything international like World of Warcraft(private server),going on my interntional ventrilo servers..etc.. basically craps out .. DC /LAG / Spikes. WHY! WHY! WHY!

I got the exact same automated response from Orcon today.

Plus this:

We at the helpdesk view each incident on a case by case basis (this includes slow speeds); if you have not already contacted us in regards to your current issue and completed troubleshooting with one of our friendly representatives, please do so at your next convenience on 0800 13 14 15 – we will then be able to escalate this to our technicians upon completion of a few simply questions and tests.

With which I replied:

I understand your teams are working on this International Bandwidth issue.
But in the meantime, am I going to be compensated or have my account discounted until this problem is resolved!?
The issue is not to do with anything on my side, but Orcon's side. Therefore the troubleshooting steps do not apply i.e. checking cabling, re-setting the modem, etc etc. Everything was working perfectly til I switched from Xtra to Orcon. I provided a tracert to show the server I use for WoW, but due to the fluctuations in latency etc - at the time it did not show this - perhaps a screenshot would help?
I would make use of the customer support via telephone - but past experiences I've been on hold for over 45 mins and I don't have the time. So surely this can be escalated upon receipt of this email and one of your technicians can phone me.
Look forward to hearing from you once again.

Good luck, we've all been saying this over and over and have asked it to the Orcon staff several times. We are willing to stay and wait for the problems to be resolved, but we expect compensation. Orcon ignores us.

I got a similarly worded reply but it referred to non updated status pages and had the feel of being a brushoff. Still no acknowledgement of the real issues lots of us are experiencing.

Not very impressed with Orcon customer service at this point in time. They are great when it comes to signing up for new services but not when you have an issue.

I'm not even looking for compensation just a DSL connection with reliable international performance.

I just tried the speedtest site as my son wanted to look at the cartoon network site. The response times were appalling. I tried all three NZ sites and got the usual 4000kbps speeds, although in reality I get around 1700. When I tried various sites ranging from Australia to Europe and the US, I couldn't even get any further than the ping results.

As for compensation, of course we should be asking for it. Orcon are quite happy to take our money, and have had more than enough time to sort out the issues, with lots of assistance from their own customers, but are still providing some of us with sub dialup speeds. The responses from Orcon regarding compensation has been deafening by the silence.

Gaming is still terrible for me with lag,ping spikes, unstable connetion,latency etc. Orcon were the best prior to April this year. Sadly increased bandwidth has not fixed Interantional traffic for Orcon's gaming customers. It is very frustrating and I'm seriously considering a move. I've been loyal and paitent with Orcon for 3 months now and don't want to move to another ISP as I have a Homeline, Tolls and Max/Max broadband with them. But this problem just continues and makes my gaming experience a bad one. Download speeds are good for other tasks but stops and starts which is no good for gaming. Can Orcon please give us an update of their next proposed fix???

Hello,

As a Orcon customer totally with Orcon its not good to hear from Orcon that they have not brought enough bandwith internationaly for the month. He advised luckly we are only 2 days away from buying our next chunk of bandwith as last time it was nearly at the begining and we all had to wait till I presume a few weeks to roll over.

Does this sound like a third world back in the sticks outfit? It sure does glad I dont have a business connection with Orcon.

Orcon you can do better get that checque book out you are owned by Kordia. Gees frusting bit like a data cap and we pay for Platnium service.

So far, my problem is gaming. Gaming now is horrible. connection drops, lags, spikes
Everything else seems cool to me. browsing/downloading/streaming

But man... when it comes to gaming, its totally, utterly bad. You just cant game at all.

I specifically chose orcon for gaming, but now im really frustrated that im not getting what i wanted.

I do now have the urge to move onto other ISP. I currently live in dunedin, any one would recommend a good isp for people in dunedin??

I really hope the gaming problem can be fixed soon before i break my loyalty to orcon.
