Thanks!  Would really like it to work good as it did when I was first connected... (That was proper quick)

quentinreade: @Brandonrnz My colleague Ross will drop you a line via twitter - I suspect we need to have a proper look into it for you and that hasn't been done. If you can work with him, we'll get all the proper troubleshooting underway. Thanks.

It's certainly not made me want to go out and recommend them to anyone that's for sure and that's still after I received the news letter from TrueNet on the monthly Internet speed in NZ which can be found here

Easily the slowest night ever on Orcon... Beyond slow.  Loading pages feels like 256k adsl that I had 7-8 years ago.
Gaming is unplayable with the constant fluctuation in pings...

Which apparently isn't much good for browsing if this graph is to be taken seriously . It must surly be down to poor DNS response times though for the line to be so consistent.

Time to read the fineprint :-)

Truenet only measure speeds nationally to national sites.

Nothing fishy about it.

I think it's latency, and single connection throughput to one destination.  Cable's winning cos of latency and not hitting their proxy servers for national I imagine.

International wise, in my own benchmarking TelstraClear Cable in Christchurch takes about 40% longer to load web pages on average than DSL with similar latency to Auckland but lower sync rate on DSL.  Although sometimes it's a bit slower than that, and in my testing sometimes Cable seemed to not load some web pages properly which is really annoying when you're trying to benchmark.

If that really is a national test Orcon is doing shocking.  What I found interesting looking at that graph is how smooth Maxnet was.

But that graph is for the time it takes to download a webpage. So Orcon is the worst as it takes the longest time to download a page. Nothing fishy, Orcon are just bad atm.

cheers

4am is when all of the ISO downloaders are active.

By faster you are talking between high 1.4 seconds and low 1.6 seconds. hmmm.

quentinreade: We added more bandwidth Friday, and while this has made some difference, it appears this still wasn’t enough.

We are in the process of getting more – and are just as keen as you to see this in place. Sorry for the delays in getting this.

Thanks for that update.

I've noticed a major slowdown in int'l traffic but I'm on the 30/10 unlimited data fibre plan. I'd heard from somewhere unofficial that Orcon maintain two bandwidth pools - one for the capped plans and one for the unlimited.

Is this true? And if so, is the current bottleneck in traffic affecting both bandwidth pools, or just the unlimited one?

Biggest user in my house is my 11yo daughter with youtube. I can just limit her on that then happily go to the 60GB plan .... before I do that however I'll need your help - your answer to this Q will be my decider.

Thanks!
