Yep can confirm something has happened at Howick exchange or with speedtest.net

This up from the average of 3759 kb/s

International is still bad.

Hi all,

Just a quick update so that you know that we haven't forgotten about you.

I can assure you that this has been escalated to the most senior people at Orcon, and that they are looking at how to resolve this. Unfortuntately I can't give you any kind of date indication at this stage as I am unable to get hold of Thomas (he is overseas). I realise that this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but thought it would be better to let you know that something is happening, rather than you thinking that we had forgotten about this or hoped it had gone away...

I will post an update as soon as I have one to post.

Hey guys, I just signed up to orcon a few days ago (from Xtra due to appaling outsourced help and ridiculous(ly slow) speeds). I just signed up to the 120$ ADSL2 plan, and am on the Glenfield Exchange. Just received my router last night. Few questions: Roughly how long does it take for the actual exchange to take place from the ISP's as i asked for it to begin on Tuesday. Also, is there anyone else on the Glenfield exchange who can post some speedtest results or give some feedback on what it's like? Any information would be awesome. Anyways, Cheers guys!

Thanks for the update Duncan, perhaps you could also put this ETA, or lack there of under the Orcon service status ?

And of course Im sure you wont mind if customers take their time paying thieir accounts, whilest we wait for the level of service marketed?

I personally have had to setup office downtown because of the poor international speeds through to Plano Texas and the like for my VPNs for my business.

Its a sorry state of affairs that could be 'managed' rather than marketed to current customers.

Just tried downloading the latest version of Firefox and gave up after watching it for 5 minutes. It started with a download speed of 1.93KB/sec and slowly dropped to 1.02KB/sec, and then varied up and down between 1.02 and 1.21KB/sec. I have given up trying to get Speedtest to even give me a result now, it's that slow.

There must be a lot of bad weather in New Zealand at the moment if Duncan is to be believed!

I'm currently waiting on my switchover to Xnet, so will see what happens then.

Well our latency at 11:43 pm on a friday night seems to be good.

Weather is bad.

But I think everyone is either asleep or out clubbing - too old to do the later.

So I guess in order to play WoW with hubby - we have to have late nights.

If I was in Duncan's position, I'd just keep quiet till the issue was fixed, the amateurish excuses & reasons have convinced me to now look elsewhere. I don't won't excuses & endless apologies, I want what I pay $120 a month for......

I've been with Orcon for a number of years but I have had enough. I was pleased with the idea of being able to give Telecom the boot & have the 'all in' ADSL2 platinum service, but it’s been one long headache of issue after issue, & yes, I know how to 'reset' my router. So my only issue is if I move to another provider, does that mean I have to go back to the dark side & get telecom back for my phone line or is there another alternative? Vodafone look just as bad judging by the replies on their forum, I like the look of XNETs plans but what about my home line?

This just makes me angry. I have been asking for a date to when this issue will be resolved since last Sunday. A full 5 working days have gone by and nothing has been done so that you can tell us of a resolution.

I was thinking of going with Telstra - but as my wife still has an 0800 number and fax line for business I wont be able to. Whats a good ISP to go with? I left Telecom for Orcon quite a few years ago. Orcon host our business web page etc.. but with this sort of bollox I am moving. Whats the wor don XNET? Any good?

By the way - I sent Tomas an emial through this site and he has read it. So I find it hard to believe that you cant get hold of him.

Well i decided to join xnet and go with fusion/torrent plan, but I can't!. I cant churn from Orcon to Xnet directly as I no longer have a line with telecom. I would have to rejoin telecom losing Broadband in the meantime and then get changed over to xnet...so no internet for atleast a week.

Only other option is to reactivate my second line and get that changed to xnet at around $100 cost.

Shocking!

And the other shocking thing, I just found out via googling, that ADSL2 via telecom is been upgraded in my area now. And I rang XTRA and spoke to them before switching over to Orcon to have an ETA on this and now they do within one Month. Surely they would have known when I phoned.

Also noticed that they updated the page on their site when you search for ADSl2 and it is a lot more informative than it was at the beginning of May.

I should have just stayed with Xtra. Going to email them now and see if I can come back - but want all the facts first.
