Interesting.  I would have thought Slingshot would have upgraded you to the new 100/20 plan ($40 wholesale price vs $37.50 for the current 30/10)  but it seems they have actually upgraded you to the 100/50.

So either they don't have the ability to sell the new plans yet (quite likely), and have simply put you onto the old regulated 100/50 in the meantime,  or they have given you a much better upgrade than you expected to the more expensive new 100/50 plan.

Given the speeds you are reporting, I suspect it is the former (old regulated 100/50 plan) - since the new plans are 'right performing' meaning tehy overprovision them allowing the customer to get a speedtest of a genuine 100/50 instead of what you guys see which is 9x/4x - which is consistent with the regulated 100/50 plan, which is not 'right performing'

Figured I'd try restarting the ONT and router. Definitely not upgraded yet, but I wasn't expecting this:

Good spotting guys, you will be on the 100/50 plan at the moment due to the way it's been configured. This will drop to the 100/20 sometime in August.
Hope you are all enjoying the boost...

Not being too knowledgeable of the nuts and bolts behind what the makeup of Internet speed comprises of, the above has left me somewhat in the dark.
"(old regulated 100/50 plan)", does that mean that torrents are throttled?

"right performing" and "over provision" ... can you explain more, not sure what those two phrases mean.

Quentin says that we will go onto the new 100/20 plan in August. Being a 'new' plan, will torrents be shaped on that, or is there no throttling?

About 8.30pm last night, I did another speedtest & I was getting ADSL speeds on Down but still good speed on Up. Any thoughts on that?
Just did a speedtest right now & I am getting what I originally posted, all good :)

I'm not the most clued-in about this, but I'll try to stop-gap until someone that is comes along:

theoldfarter: "(old regulated 100/50 plan)", does that mean that torrents are throttled?

Chorus offers two UFB plans (30/10 and 100/50) to ISPs, and these are regulated by the Commerce Commission. They also offer a pile of new plans which aren't being regulated by the Commerce Commission (one of those being the 100/20 one.)

The different Chorus plans have no direct impact on Slingshot's torrent throttling/prioritisation/management (or whatever else you want to call it.)

theoldfarter: "right performing" and "over provision" ... can you explain more, not sure what those two phrases mean.

The current 30/10 and 100/50 plans are configured to provide up to those speeds between two points (I think it's between the ONT and the ISP's handover point). Due to network overheads, you won't ever see those speeds on a speedtest, download, etc.. Over provisioning means that the connection will be configured to allow more than 100/20 in the background, so that it can - after overheads - perform at up to the advertised 100/20 on the customer's end (which is right performing.)

I get the same thing (see my post further up the page.) Looks like there's a shortage of bandwidth somewhere.

quentinreade: Hi guys,
I am told we are about halfway through the list. Let me know if you don't see any change in the next day or two.
For those of you migrated - hope you are enjoying it :)
Quentin

Aww, looks like I'm at the end of the list.

Well I'm pretty sure I've been upgraded. My upload speed is now 40 but last night the download barely hit 15.

Checking again now shows 45 down and 31 up. So not quite sure that's quite right still. Still decent though.

Definitely still 30/10 here, and noticeable drop in speed in the evenings.

Bad luck mate. Hopefully Quentin can follow up.

I know what you mean by speed though. I've only seen one good 90/42 speed test and that was in the morning. The upload is always solid but in the evenings the download barely hits what it was on ADSL. It's very weird.

In the evenings, national is worse than what we were getting on Slingshot ADSL a few months back, and international is quite a bit worse than Bigpipe ADSL (about half the speed or less without factoring in the OVH issue that I've complained about elsewhere.)

My flatmate's even resorted to using the Inspire free wifi (which is limited to 1Mb/s) because it's faster than our Slingshot fibre connection for some of the stuff he's been downloading. undecided
