McGee:
Did you use the steam limiters like posted in this thread ?

At the beginning, but it caused steam to freeze too often.

Then it likely came from many CDNs.

If you monitor your network activity you'll see it doesn't just download from one location unless you set a rule to do so.

Yea, I'm just curious as to why it said Snap when it doesn't look like any of it came from there.

Do we know for sure if the Snap server has finished downloading all of its content yet or not? It's possible the game you downloaded wasn't on the server at all.
Remember that Steam was not designed with those of us on capped internet. It will download from any source it can in order to ensure the best speed and reliability. Remember that it can also download from HTTP, which is counted as normal traffic.

As has been mentioned before, this is a function of steam not snap.  That banner just shows what steam considers your "preferred" server; but to define what that means you'd probably get a better answer on the steam forums. Perhaps the steam client doesn't actually check what's on the content server it references.

If you want to guarantee it comes from snap though, you need to use steam limiter or similar. I've never seen steam limiter feeze steam, but downloads will go into a "suspended" state, I'm guessing when the data is not on the snap server.

I'd say it's unlikely; and fair enough 8TB is a lot of data...    I've got a couple of things queued and they are still sitting in suspended state.   It would be good if one of the snap peeps can tell us how much data is actually on the server though! :)

Hi Guys,

Cache currently has 3.16TB of content and getting more day by day.

Before you ask no we can't see what is on it as all the folders are named A3 B7 etc.

Cheers

Awesome thanks Nick. Really good to know there has been progress since the last update!

Looks like maybe they load the more popular stuff first (and possibly prioritize Valve content :) ) I'm running steam limiter all the time and have noticed Team Fortress 2 updates come through like clockwork whereas the other downloads in my queue are fairly old games bought on the summer sale.

That's what I've noticed too on my home connection.

I don't think CS:GO is on the cache as of yet as I've had people commenting that it's been quite slow - No one has actually confirmed where they are getting in from as of yet.

At least it should be all ready to roll by the time the Christmas sale rocks around :)

@Nick (or any other snap folk) Any chance of an update on how full the cache is now? I'm currently pulling CoD:MW3 down at 3.6MB/s with steam limiter running (pretty much maxing my line, NICE! :) ) but another update (Trine 2) seems to be stuck, so I'm guessing it's not quite done populating yet?

Hi Guys,

I had an email with my contact at Valve a couple of days ago in regards to this.
He's said that the server as it stands it's max capacity for hosting due to the way their hosting software works.

They are hoping to be able to resolve this in the future but haven't given us an ETR at this point for this.
At this point we can't push to get any more content on the box.

If anything happens in the short term I'll be sure to post an update.

Thanks for the update Nick; You guys rock, your response times are always so quick, do you ever sleep!? :P

TBH I'm happy getting what I can from the snap cache using Steam Limiter and then turning steam limiter off to get anything that doesn't come down. There's obviously a decent bit on the cache server as I've got a decent number of updates from it over the last couple of weeks and now CoD:MW3 is coming down nice and quick too.

Any chance you can tell us how much data is on there compared to the size of the full steam catalogue?
