Haven't read the thread in a while but I can say my Internet stability has improved otherwise I would be with another ISP already. I also received a goodwill credit and moved from ZeroShock to the Orcon Purple plan.

Ventrillo has been fine for atleast 2 weeks, no repetitive dropouts or disconnects, no eternal lag of voice and it seems to be OK during peak times, dropping to a few seconds behind whats actually happening rather than just unable to connect.

My WoW lag connecting to a US server has stayed around where it was 200-400'ish during non peak times and 400-600 during peak times. Which varies depending on where I am in WoW. I've since signed upto www.lowerping.com to improve WoW lag and get around 200ms most of the time. Speedwise YouTube and downloads are still pretty dependent on the time of the day. I haven't run any speedtests for a while which I guess means it hasn't been that bad.

The final verdict I got on ZeroShock was this from Orcon Support

"Prioritasation will not take effect unless the network is under load, and prioritasation is needed to maintain a uniform connection for our customer base. Priority will be given to web(http) and email traffic, so whilst P2P isn't specifically targeted - it isn't a protocol that is given priority. It is important to note that prioritasation is only enforced when the network is at load, and it isn't based on the time of day. "

and

"The Zeroshock plan is special in its own way as it has its own alloted amount of bandwidth which is separate from everyone else in the network. If a handful of customers abuse their caps (which is typically 20Gb) then the rest of the people on the plan start to suffer deteriorating connections.

If there is a repeat offender among customers on the Zeroshock plan (i.e. warned about usage but it continues) then these people are moved away from this plan by force to better traffic management.

P2P is a form of traffic which is nearly disabled on the Zeroshock plan, whilst Gaming and HTTP traffic are given the highest priority. I would suggest moving off this plan if this pattern continues for you. We are however planning another bandwidth upgrade by the end of the week so please monitor your connection over the weekend for any results."

I thought I would share my update.

International speeds with Orcon:

National with Orcon:

Signed up to Vodafone on the 4th of August. Got connected 4 days later on 8th August.

My International speeds have increased.

National with Vodafone:

See, I wasn't just imangining the poor performance. I wish I had logs of my Xtra performance...but I never had any reason to do speed tests on that network.

I am synching at 4784 kbps avgs close to 5mbps in my Modem status panel - which is very satisfying.

Also still going though the process with TDR to do with Orcon - I dunno what asses you all had to kiss to get your goodwill payments - but so far their communication processes and customer service in regards to dispute resolutions is shocking.

So I take it the reason there aren't any complaints about performace - is because everyone has left...or the ones that have left have lessened the load on the network.

kiwipearls I think I'm about to join you. Tell me more. How is your latency when gaming since the switch? I'm still stuck with high pings and bad latency with Orcon. As soon as I come off there 12 month Homeline + Tolls + Broadband Max/Max plan I'm looking at the competitiion who can supply me with a good gaming experience without the bad latency and higher than normal ping. I know Orcon were capable prior to March/April and I was more than happy but no more!

I want Homeline + Tolls + Broadband Max/Max and I don't care what its costs as long as I can continue gaming without the terrible latency due to lack of bandwidth! Thanks.

Looks like this age old issue of slow International Speed is back! Had nothing but trouble for the last 24 hours, rendering working from home yet again impossible!

(just checked outside, no rain or nasty weather) so wonder what the issue is this time, surely it cant be capacity relate?!

Upload Speed: 826 kbps (103.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

I sync to the Airedale Exchange at 16083/1020 Kbps

I'm paying $140 for this. Shocking!!!!!!!

My Options:

a. ignore it and hope Orcon add more capacity

b. log a 'poor international speed' job with helpdesk

c. go back to Telecom for quality international bandwidth ($100/month for 30GB + $40 voice = same as I'm paying now)

I'm so over this! Grrr!!

I've been a orcon customer for years, and recently changed over to the new so called ADSL2+ (BS)... anyway its not what I was expecting, actually its not worth paying extra, my connection speed is only 8 Mb (only little bit higher than when I was on normal ADSL, 7.6 Mb)... I do realise I live far from the exchange (4 km) but that's no reason to have such a ridiculous connection/speed, that's a big drop from the expected 24 Mb.

Anyway I emailed orcon, and I got two replies from their customer support people.
One was live with it, and the other was our engineers are aware of this and are working on it.

YES I'M PISSED OFF, ORCON = TELECOM TO ME NOW

If you knew that 4km would not provide you the theoretical maximum of 24mbps, then why did you have high expectations? All that they say is that your line could provide speeds up to 24mbps (which is basically not achievable)

ADSL2+ basically rounds off to the same speed as normal ADSL at around 3.5km from the exchange. So you're either going to live with it or change.

I didn't say i was expecting 24 or anything near that number, to be honest i was expecting 12 to 15.
i didn't know ADSL2+ rounds off to normal ADSL after 3.5km, if i knew this then i wouldn't have signed up.

Sh1t international yet again

The ping prob describes how sh1t it is more then the download speed. It is so laggy when playing any game and my connection (to games) often drop out completeley.

As you would expect national seems fine

Hi There!

I am sorry but whomever thinks they are getting 12-15mpbs at 4km from the exchange is delusional. NO-ONE can get those speeds at those distances. Read up on ADSL2+. I am < 2KM from my exchange getting 10mbps.
