You have a different problem mate if your 1st hop outside your router is lagged, should be logging a call to the helpdesk for that, could have a line or port issue,

And by 11pm it'll be fine. I logged a fault last week and by the time they get back to me its fine again. Only happens from 6:30 to 11pm.

Well, I got the email today notifying me my Silver+ plan is up and running. First thing I did was to obviously run a speed test. Have to say, I'm incredibly disappointed.

After 3 years with Orcon, I've always been a loyal supporter of these guys (so far as laughing at the VF guy who turned up at my door the other day saying the Red network is ready in my area, and told him he was too slow, and too late).

But this really takes the cake:

Hi binarysolo,

That is certainly not the performance that you should expect.

Which exchange are you connected to? There was a backhaul fault on the Auckalnd central exchanges yesterday that I believe has now been resolved. This may explain that drop in international performance.

Hi Duncan,

I'm connected to the Avondale exchange, which was unbundled recently. I've logged a ticket already, but I'll check the speeds tonight. At 300kb/s it really is unusable. Hopefully it was just a bad coincendence between having Silver+ kick in, and the fault..

Speeds this morning. Much better! Hopefully it's here to stay.

edit: Spoke too soon. Even worse than before. Going to give the support desk another call.

Sigh, the problems everyone was having 1-2 months ago with internet games basically being limited, like world of warcraft really are back. This took over a month to fix, and it wasn't fixed until your new international bandwidth prediction thing came in. Looks like your back to needing to look at your international bandwidth again, getting chain disconnected as though I'm on dial up in world of warcraft.

Please address this old issue, you fixed it before, please fix it again, and this time please don't take weeks to do so!! Almost switched to snap internet because it took so long to fix, but managed to wait long enough for it to be fixed. I won't wait long this time.

My results have got alot better recently. On silver LLU plan.

Just got switched to Orcon@Home Talk Surfer 20GB a few days back, and its pretty much dialup speeds for international.

Is there some issues at the moment? Am on Howick Exchange.

That doesn't really make sense - the Talk/Surfer offer ended ages ago, and secondly, if you're under the Howick exchange, you should be on the Orcon@Home+ plans (Purple+, Silver+, Gold+, Platinum+)

But if you're getting dialup speeds - obviously there's an issue.

Since Friday(22nd Aug), I've been getting some problems with orcon again,im starting to lag in ventrilo(australian vent) getting 25kping and constant disconnections. Also ive been getting spikes and disconnections on a few games like Warcraft 3...
I get dc'ed from msn and sometimes some pages dont load.. i have to wait awhile and refresh it.
PS: I'm in dunedin(Zeroshock plan). Orcon has been fine for about a month and a half now(After their recent international issues).. don't tell me its coming back..

Nothing much wrong with Orcon international bandwidth.
Glenfield exchange ok.
I suggest you look for other problems like your own exchange or connection.

Yep I'm getting similar issues, 1k ping at the moment. After having international traffic problems all week, it came right on friday. Saturday back to bad again. Parnell on adsl2 gold plan

yesterday I was up-graded to Orcons ADSL2 plan, I was perviously on one of their old plans (max up/down 15GB cap) which ran like a dream (most of the time), I am on the Avondale exchange which is literally 700m from my house. However, now that I've switched to ADSL2 I seemed to have moved back into dial up speeds. I've been getting 70kbps down and 100kbps up to Sydney and even worst to America. When I spoke to Orcons helpdesk, I was told there isnt much they can do about it and they'll send me an e-mail......which they never did...typical of them.

I called back an 2 hours later and actually spoke to someone who was slightly more helpfully, and they sent me an e-mail after an hour on the phone.

I find all of this to be very concerning, if Orcon cant get their international traffic problems sorted by now (4 months) they should NOT be selling ADSL2 plans to people, it is false advertising in my opinion. If this is next-gen internet then I'm a leper

The performance of the internet was such that I couldn't visit international sites, couldn't game, couldn't use any instant messaging clients, which in all is what I use the internet for. I do however get great local traffic, but I'm not interested in local content most of the time.

I hope that they don't take a month to fix this as that is not justifiable in my opinion, and would expect to have my months internet credited back to me, but we will see.

I will not be recommending Orcon to anyone, as this is truly a sad state for a company that started out so good
