We'll see, the guy I spoke to today is going to help me with my speeds, he's actually extremely helpful.
I was able to clear the 2dg firmware and now getting the same speeds on the fritzbox as I was their ASUS :)
Thanks for the link!
Jexla:
Best speed result I have gotten:
http://www.beta.speedtest.net/result/5922084978
Got told on the live chat that that's what they expect, will talk to the guy who's been helping me out previously later today when he get's in and will update how that goes.
2nd thing is that ping, it will not go below 15ms in any speedtest.
So I run a tracert, first 2 external IP's are: 203.97.25.86/85
Look them up and they're Vodafone IP's....??
Terribly confusing experience, hoping for answers when I call up later.
One last thing to mention, I have a public IP, no CG-NAT however I don't see any offer of a static IP :)
What does a normal traceroute look like?
You do have to remember they're not really an ISP with their own network - they are simply buying off others. I didn't realise this was Vodafone however.
Where are you located? I suspect they're probably just taking all traffic back to Auckland with a single handover there which is the same as other lower cost providers such as My Republic and Bigpipe.

Try some speed tests to a servers in Auckland. If possible try one hosted by Vodafone or Vocus. I often get better results from server hosted in main centers.
It will be interesting to see if there is much of a speed difference between a server in Auckland as compared to the one in Napier you linked too.
Jexla: I have and there is little difference, except ping goes to around 8 for the vocus server which leads me to believe that's where all the traffic routes through.
Sounds like it. Must be his fibre connection not working properly.

Jexla: Good question, when looking at getting fibre the first time in October last year, I put in my email etc whilst looking at spark offers. They sent me an email a few days later offering me $100 credit if I joined in the next 7 days of the email.
Well, lucky for me the lady didn't read it properly when I emailed it to her to show her. =)
Lucky indeed! That makes an already good deal into an excellent one. I'd take that offer in a heartbeat if I could. ![]()
