I don't understand why:

  • It feels that call quality has been very mixed internetwork over the past month and a bit. I don't recall having these types of quality issues in 2020 whilst on 2D.
  • Why Spark <--> VF call quality doesn't seem to exhibit the same quality issues

If 2D customer support won't investigate then I will have no option but to liquidate our pool of 2D mobiles in favor of VFNZ. I'd prefer to stay with 2D, particularly because they have a NZ based customer care team and don't have the cultural issues of a certain other Telco... but I need to be able to hear what my significant other is saying.

Just spoke to 2D support again. They’ve reaffirmed that they will indeed investigate but need examples... not too sure whether it was because I said that I’d port out 3 pay monthly connections from them if they wouldn’t ;)

Would be good to get geekzoners 2D’s opinion on this so we can figure out whether we are wasting our time collecting examples or not.

I have already ported away but can PM you a couple of memorable examples based on my call logs if you want?

And here is me living in Lower Hutt city making outgoing calls to landlines and mobiles and the audio is crystal clear on the 2 degrees mobile network using 3G.

That is customer service requesting examples!

I am sure 2d staff have mobile phones and could easily replicate it 🙄

Zero idea why they need customer examples

Perhaps the best example I can give is when their call centre called me about my WFH broadband connection but complained they couldn’t hear me on what was a very bad 2d mobile line!! 😂🤦‍♂️ I was sitting in 5 bars of reception.

Was it a Wi-Fi calling call?

No 4G

Edit: sorry that was sent quickly. But I was not on Wifi but had full mobile reception. I’m no expert so I don’t know what happens with calls in 4G coverage, but there is consistently poor call quality experienced all over Canterbury as appears to be the case for many others.

Agree with this, I had a friend that use to go to Canterbury all time stating the call quality there was crap.

Did some calling today to my friend in the South Island Chch and had to turn off Wi-Fi calling so the call was on VoLTE

The call quality to VodafoneNZ VoLTE is much clearer over 2d VoLTE when compared to a 2d Wi-Fi call

Even the B party in Chch that has really zero idea what VoLTE is commented how much clearer the call was when I hung up called back over VoLTE

2d VoWi-Fi to 2d VoWi-Fi is HD for sure but not to VodafoneNZ

Does 2D VoLTE -> VF VoLTE calling take a different route (eg. different handovers) than VFNZ 3G/VoLTE -> 3G / VoLTE?

3G I am sure takes the SS7 interconnect and VoLTE the IP interconnect

That would explain a lot. Do we know if Spark <--> VFNZ calls go over IP interconnects? That would explain the better audio quality...

@morganbrowne The calls from 2d VoWi-Fi to VodafoneNZ VoLTE do not seem to be HD anyway this can be checked? I had to turn off VoWi-Fi on my handset yesterday so the handset passed to VoLTE so I could understand the B party I was speaking to on VodafoneNZ
