My poor wife is supposed to be enjoying a solo break in Seoul this week...she has just messaged me in a panic as she realised she hadn't turned mobile data off on her 2Degrees mobile like she thought she had (or accidentally turned it back on...)

I have logged on to her portal and at a casual roaming rate of $10per MB (!) she has accidentally smashed $1600 of roaming today with her phone doing its usual background stuff. Turns out that spend control wasn't on either, so we missed that safety net.

She is now both distraught and kicking herself and I really don't want this to ruin her holiday.

I have tried to speak with 2Degrees on her behalf as she is not a position to make the phone call currently, but understandably they can't really do anything for me as she is the account owner.

I have set the spend control on her account and she has now turned the thing off, so we shouldn't incur any further charges.

Is there any likelihood of some sympathy from 2Degrees on this? I know that technically we do owe the data spend used, but it was a genuine cock-up on her part and she has never done this before.

Do you think a waiver or at least a good-faith discount on the $1600 would be possible and if so, how best to go about it?

So final update:

2Degrees offered a good faith credit of 30% off the total cost of the data bill.

Accepted gladly and appreciated - thanks 2Degrees for your understanding.

We will chalk this one down to experience and go on with our lives!

Cheers all for comments and contributions..
