We’ve just set up freeview on the bedroom on the spare TV – using a HD freeview box

I initially set it up with RCA leads from the freeview box to the TV, but in the weekend bought a small HDMI lead. However, now I’ve done this freeview doesn’t work on TV3 or FOUR, but works well on the other channels. I tried another HDMI Cable with the same effect.

Using the RCA leads all channels work fine, but I want to keep the RCA in on the back of the TV for plugging in the old VCR player

Anyone know why this happens on TV3 and FOUR only with the HDMI cable?

Does the box report no/poor signal or does the tv say no hdmi signal?

What signal does Freeview output for TV3/4? I remember 1/2 being 720p I think and 3/4 being 1080i or something like that.

Might be your TV not supporting the output signal of those channels. Wonder if you can change it on the Freeview box?

1/2/3 are 1080i. FOUR is 576i. 720p transmissions ceased in September 2010.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

when HDMI cable is plugged in picture goes all pixilated and freezes - then comes up 'no signal' - only on TV3 and FOUR... all other channels work fine
when I set it up (RCA cables) I just did an Auto Tune to tune all the stations in

Ok so your hdmi cable is radiating interference that the rf cable is picking up.

You didn't get the antenna cable from a 2 dollar shop did you?

No - the antenna cable I've had for a few years now and have not had any issues with it, and like I said it is only TV3 and FOUR that don't work with the HDMI cable

It's clearly getting interference from somewhere and there are plenty of thin cheap nasty rf cables out there so I would suggest first off replacing the cable from the wall to the set top box with a decent quality one.

If its not a fly lead (as stated in other thread) you at least need to terminate with an F type (using a crimping tool) and F type to Belling Lee adapter or a one piece equivalent.

It's not.

Does sound like the HDMI cable is interfering with the RF signal. I'd say the other channels on that Mux are playing up too (OP can you check TV3+1 and FOUR+1?)

yes TV3 +1 and FOUR + 1 are the same as TV3 and FOUR

Not nessacarily as the interference from hdmi will be a function of the pixel clock. Try changing to a 720 or 480 p output and see if it changes at all.

have you also tried the box and HDMI lead on another TV to see if it does the same thing
