Hi,

Apologies if this is a PAQ (Previously A. Q. - it doesn't seem to be an FAQ!); but I've search around a bit and not found anything relevant.

I was given a Philips SRP2008B Universal Remote for Christmas, and I'm trying to get it to work with my Homecast HT9200DTR, but not a lot of luck so far.

The SRP2008B isn't "learning" (i.e. won't read codes from manufacturers remote); I have to put in a "manufacturer code" and then hope it works.  There is a "homecast" code listed in the manual, but it appears that the Philips device also likes to have the device type correct; for example, putting in the "Samsung" code under "Cable" doesn't make the SRP2008B control my TV; whereas the "Samsung" code in the "TV" function works for the TV.

So, does anyone have any experience with this combination?  Or does anyone want to help me guess which of these categories the Homecast device falls into:

DVB-T - Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial Device, FreeToAir TV

(that was the most logical, but can't get it to work yet!)

OR one of these:

SAT - Satellite receiver, Digital Satellite System (DSS), Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS)
Cable - Cable box, Internet Protocol TV (IPTV), High Definition Television Decoder (HDTV)
DVR - DVD recorder (DVDR), DVD/Hard Disk Drive combination (DVDR-HDD)
DVD - DVD Player, BLU-Ray player  (I hope not this, as I want to control this too!)

Of course I could also try "VCR"...

Thanks in advance!

In case anyone is interested in some manufacturer honesty, I logged a support call with Philips about this unit.

Their response was basically "It won't work; return it to your reseller to be replaced".  Unfortunately, their suggested replacements don't seem to be sold in NZ as far as I can see...

The Homecast support guys at dtvs.co.nz said I really should be using a Logitech Learning unit!  Pity the original reseller (who shall remain nameless but is a large Australian-based chain who feature many times on this forum!) wasn't quite so clued up; although the guy in the shop today when I returned my unit basically agreed that it would never have worked with a PVR and the gift giver should never have been sold it - especially as they had asked at the time if the unit was compatible.

So, no more Philips remote now, but at least I'm a little fatter in the pocket.

Hi, I use the Logitech Harmony 600 with this freeview box and it works perfectly. No learning necessary.

I'm sure you can find a better price than that too.

Thanks; I've now got the Harmony 300, and am very happy with it - I didn't really think I needed the features of the higher end remotes.
