I've managed to get the TV's freeview tuner to reliably pick up 8 channels, as long as the weather isn't too rough, by using rabbit-ears, it does hiccup now & then though. Mounting a new UHF antenna to the top of the house is "difficult" given the nature of it. Have people devised any clever homebrew alternatives? (I could bolt something to a large metal railing on the other side of the wall).

It doesn't have to be on the roof. As long as it receives sufficient signal it can be attached almost anywhere. Just find a suitable mounting attachment. I use a short jpole mounted on the barge board which is easily accessible.

Get the missus to hold onto the wire and stand outside on her tip toes - that should do it.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Get someone from Student Job Search and wrap them in tin foil :), sorry couldn't resist,

Given that you are able to get OK signal from Bunny Ears, a short UHF aerial should do fine, you can fairly much bolt it anywhere- where ever works for you is good,
