you will get around 48 hours of normal use till the problem rears its ugly head when it is in the recording stopped mode the hard drive is at best inactive and inaccessible. Recordings will not happen and you can't play back anything previously recorded that actually recorded. If it is behaving the same way as mine was. after the power off and restart It will record and pause live tv as it was supposed to. The only clue to it going faulty is the recording ended when you change channel and the refusal to pause live tv which my mum used a lot...

Take my advice with a grain of salt as my information is at least a month out of date things may have changed. I'm watching this thread from a curious morbid like watching a car crash in slow motion.

Have you tried a different unit? This sounds to me like a failing storage card...

I'm the same - Hate being wrong so if they can't sort it, I am vindicated... but deep down I believe it should be a great product and hope they sort it out...

The Panasonic's are rock solid if you just want a reliable recorder.

The only slight issue is scheduled recordings changing to the +1 channels sometimes. I believe this also happened with the older Dish units.
One other thing that can catch you out is, the unit seems to go into a kiddy lock mode if you try & use it when it's woken up from standby & is currently recording. None of the buttons on the remote will do anything until you've pressed guide & it's come up. Luckily pressing guide is 100% reliable in unlocking it & it only happens if the recorder was off when it started recording, & the recording is still in progress.

Good video, the issues raised are the exact same issues I am experiencing. I will try a power off reboot when I get home to see if that helps. I am yet to hear back from Dish TV but I have heard from the store I purchased it from and they are happy to replace it. Can anyone recommend another recorder which works well?

I'd also be interested in a good alternative if there is one. I'd just like a good freeview box that can record multiple channels at once.

I would like to know why you're defending this product so much (many other posts as well).
There's no way I could recommend this product to a normal user from what I've read, which is a shame because I would like something more modern than the Panasonic.

I could understand if the Dish TV unit was requiring updates for the more advanced features, but recording & playback needs to be rock solid OOTB. It's not acceptable for a product to be sold in this state & it's disappointing that some people seem to think this is normal now.

BTW the Panasonic 260 unit we have has had 1 update I believe which didn't relate to anything critical. Recording & playback has always been solid.

I am using the device at home (our TV does have Freeview built-in but EPG is appallingly slow). We don't record anything (on demand exists for that and our main consumption is Netflix/Amazon Prime). So I am not seeing the recording problems some people see but from my point of view it's a good device for people who want something all in one. As I said before, sure you can get a cheap bvox from AliExpress and install the apps yourself - but average Joe Consumer can't.

People have different opinions so I am not sure why you have the " why you're defending this product so much" attitude going on. It's a loaded statement.

I did not say our main consumption of content was through this box, did I? I have an Amazon Fire TV just for that - that is our main box.

I'm personally not hating on it, I want it to succeed. A box with both satellite and terrestrial tuners, with decent storage and EPG integration, is a good idea that should have broad appeal. Particularly as recording Freeview and then fast forwarding through the ads is basically the only way to watch FV content tolerably. It's a product that is needed and ought to sell well, particularly given the dearth of alternatives.

But it is concerning that most people will be purchasing a dual-tuner box with a 1TB hard drive with the intention of recording shows and watching them later. That is literally the main purpose of the box. Yet it seems to have been released without this function, it's very reason for existence, seeming to have been properly tested before release. Moreover, from other discussions Dish do seem to have form in this area - releasing products with fundamental bugs and then trying to patch them later to fix fundamental issues of core functionality after the bug reports roll in.

For a mainstream product sold in high street retailers consumers deserve, and should expect better.

I certainly won't be touching it for the relative in question. I don't want to be dealing with the support issues by remote control, and being blamed every time it is flaky. Maybe in a year or two when Dish finally have the bugs out to the extent that product is servicable I might look at it again. But for now, no.

I agree there are problems. But I also like to think people will do the right thing and when finding problems report to Dish TV and let them fix things.

Yes, some people might think the box should come out working as intended from day one - I agree this would be ideal. But seeing this didn't happen then give the information to help them fix things.

The whole thing to me sounded like a surreal life where every other product worked out of the box on first attempt. Unfortunately that is not how it is... Reason why so many patches and updates are released every day for apps and operating systems.

And if someone thinks the product is not for you, hey you are lucky, you can return it. Just don't come to my site trying to push an agenda and use weasel words to make it look like I am being paid to defend something. That's the right way to the door.
