The Panasonic's are rock solid if you just want a reliable recorder.

The only slight issue is scheduled recordings changing to the +1 channels sometimes. I believe this also happened with the older Dish units.
One other thing that can catch you out is, the unit seems to go into a kiddy lock mode if you try & use it when it's woken up from standby & is currently recording. None of the buttons on the remote will do anything until you've pressed guide & it's come up. Luckily pressing guide is 100% reliable in unlocking it & it only happens if the recorder was off when it started recording, & the recording is still in progress.

Good video, the issues raised are the exact same issues I am experiencing. I will try a power off reboot when I get home to see if that helps. I am yet to hear back from Dish TV but I have heard from the store I purchased it from and they are happy to replace it. Can anyone recommend another recorder which works well?

I'd also be interested in a good alternative if there is one. I'd just like a good freeview box that can record multiple channels at once.

I didnt realise that it was a PAnasonic issue regarding the switching to +1 channels for recording. It infuriates me at times.

While I have misgivings for this product, Mainly for the waste of time it frittered away. Out of the box and powered up it works well enough, 48 hours later then the gremlins came out to play. I don't hate the product but for my Mother it had to work, Seeing the frustration of trying to learn how to use a new box only for the box to stop working is not a customer experience you would want as a ideal.

On a slightly off topic but a relation in operating systems My second Android phone (first one was ok for the most), I had three years of faultless service with months of uptime (a rare thing indeed) the only reason I retired it was some apps would not work due to software feature/blote. The next phone was so unreliable that just trying to answer a call was nearly impossible (due to lockups phone crashes ge screen backlight on but no function from anything) went through six of them the replacement was the earlier sibling in the range that thing worked out of the box the way I was hoping just shy of a month of uptime before power off time, each sequential phone has worked about the same I have never seen the Months of uptime again and we are talking 4+ months.

I have had and still own flaky pieces of tech they still have a use and pay the way (do what they were meant to do). For those who have a dumb TV this would be a brilliant as it adds functionality that is useful. Everything seems like this device should be a winner. Now maybe it has some flaky code that causes cascading errors or possibly some sub par hardware on some units due to the nature of "bined" parts (eg built to a price). Maybe some customers bought it for the on demand on line stuff and are blissfully unaware of the problems and may never know. All I know for sure was our customer experience and that is slowly getting out of date.

There is still the possibility of 6 to 12 months down the track we might buy one again.

Since the older Dish recorders do it as well (I wonder if these units do to), I think it's more an EPG issue.
Just guessing, but I wonder if the +1 channel EPG data is sometimes get read in 1st.
I fixed it for the news by setting up a manual recording that runs every day :)

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn the tv off without the box being turned on and vica versa? We find we can't leave the box on if the tv isn't on and I'm wondering if this is cause the recording issues.

You’re right, you caught me out. My evil agenda was to encourage people not to accept half finished products, hoping that the company would have to start testing properly & improving their product so I would feel comfortable buying it!

I would love for this product to be robust so I could recommend it to people. I have multiple family members with recorders & if they die one day I would like for there to be replacement options.

You have to remember to most people this is an appliance, it’s sold at appliance stores with other appliances. Appliances work or they’re returned straight away. Even if you return it to the store & they accept it with no issues, it has cost you time & petrol at least. The average user shouldn't be expected to spend time reporting issues to Dish.

I agree there are problems. But I also like to think people will do the right thing and when finding problems report to Dish TV and let them fix things.

Yes, some people might think the box should come out working as intended from day one - I agree this would be ideal. But seeing this didn't happen then give the information to help them fix things.

The whole thing to me sounded like a surreal life where every other product worked out of the box on first attempt. Unfortunately that is not how it is... Reason why so many patches and updates are released every day for apps and operating systems.

And if someone thinks the product is not for you, hey you are lucky, you can return it. Just don't come to my site trying to push an agenda and use weasel words to make it look like I am being paid to defend something. That's the right way to the door.

Yes it would be great to know if this unit will always record the correct channel.
The other time the manual timer is useful is when programmes overlap & you run out of tuners.

Notwithstanding the criticisms we decided to buy (like others at Noel Leeming at Warehouse pricing). In answer to my earlier post here I had no problem pulling the existing content off the T2100's HD with Linux Mint laptop.

Setup was pretty much pulg and play with Samsung TV and LAN. No fancy media server etc to accommodate - I probably have to confess we use Alice in Videoland for DVDs who provide a suitably idiosyncratic service to match the vnitage of their technology. That suits us given the extent of our video entertainment appetites, but neither our children or grandchildren really approve.

Updated no problem. Usual problems finding our way around a new interface, but seems less demanding than the T2100.

Had to swallow my pride and install Chrome on Windows environment, but Chromecast works no problem (use Firefox - consoled myself it's only needed to stream etc). Same for the Apple Google Home app on Jane's IPad.

So so far so good 2 weeks in.

The 14 day return policy depends on what the companies return policy is, it is an old urban myth that it is in Law, its not. It was amazing how many people try to quote it.

Unfortunately I didn't keep the box as I had no intention of returning it when I purchased it. If I had the box they would have replaced it. Lesson learnt.

The 14 day right of return is a retailer initiative on top of the CGA and in no way replaces your rights under the CGA. They can insist on the box etc as a part of the returns policy. It covers 'Change of mind', 'the colour of the remote does not match the cushions' type of returns.

If the product is faulty, you are covered by the CGA. In this case it does not matter if you have the packaging or not. What matters is the retailer has to fix it. When you go and pick up the repaired product, say you returned it under the CGA due to the defects. Tell them you don;t want it back. If they insist you taking it back, ensure you leave the shop with an agreement that if the product is still faulty you will be refunded purchase price in full. If it turns out the problem is fixed, then it is a great product and you will be happy. If the problem is not fixed, first sign of problems you get your money back.

Keep in mind you have a right of refund for 'Significantly defective' product. When I returned my Dish a month ago, I feel it definitely meet that criteria and the retailer did take it back (Although I think it helped that I told them I wanted a Panasonic which they had in stock). Reports in the last week indicate the software flaws may have been fixed, however, if you returned it when it was significantly defective, the CGA requires the retailer to refund you your money.

If you purchased the product with a credit card, you have an ability to make a claim though your CC provider...

2. Movies grouped instead of shown singly in Manage Recordings.
