That sounds like it might be the power supply injector to a mast head amplifier, which is good.  You want to take the signal at the aerial and make it stronger.

If it's honestly just some amp that sits at the wall plate though then this is bad, as you'd be amplifying a crap signal to make a really big crap signal that way.

You sound like you're in a dodgy reception area for some of the frequencies.  Unfortunately that's your fault and not TVNZ's.  Yes, if it was me I would remove the splitter for testing purposes and connect the joints to make one straight length to your TV.

Really though i'd be looking to invest in a high gain UHF aerial and run new RG6 coax cabling down to your TV.  If you are still in a weak signal area then you might need a mast head amplifier and really a good site survey too by a professional to check if there are any areas on your property that get the signal better.

Hi,

I seem to have the exact same problem. TV1 and TV2 are pixelated and fuzz, they are fine for a few minutes before fuzzing out.  (They all seem to be on 538Mhz). 

Was a solution found for this for the original poster? 

I have a UHF Aerial going to a splitter then goes to 2 Televisions with Inbuilt Freeview.
Cable runs to both TV's are no longer than 5 meters each.

Terminations are crisp. All other channels work fine except the channels on 538Mhz. 

I will attempt to just do a single cable run to 1 TV to see if this changes anything and also manually tune them. 

Any advice is appreciated.

I have the same situation and have never found a solution. We are in a fringe area but when I first put up the antenna we had perfect reception for a couple years. Then we started getting intermittent problems. We only have issues on the TVNZ mux, no others. Sometimes perfect reception and strong signal, sometimes not. It only affects TVNZ. Because the antenna is so high on the mast, it is a pain to bring down, but we did it a couple times and I restored some rusty contacts in the balun but nothing ever made any difference. Eventually we started streaming everything and I gave up on the antenna so I'm afraid I can't offer a solution. Sorry.

Ah right, glad someone responded! I wonder what the issue is.
Tomorrow I will manually tune the television set and then if that does nothing I'll test a single cable run. 

For some reason at night it doesn't seem to be as pixelated as it usually is in the day.

I had the same problem, a technician replaced the antenna and masthead amplifier which solved it.

E3xtc: Thanks for that - can anyone recommend anyone in the West Auckland/Titirangi area that might be best suited to assist with this? I previously had Teletech come out; and am almost 100% sure that things are worse after their attempts :(


I had the exact same issue - I live in Epsom and couldn’t get TVNZ channels without pixellation but TV3 worked fine. Suspect the previous owners just used Sky.

For us a new booster and a filter fixed the issue for us without the need to fork out for a new antenna.

If this continues to be a location issue you could always watch live via the TNVZOD app.  That is presuming you have ok unlimited BB where you are.

 

Not an ideal solution but at least you will get good quality broadcast on 1 and 2

Well, after seven months with the new equipment, the exact same problem has happened again!

 

I wonder if the recent bad weather could be the culprit?

Well, I gave up on it a while ago. Single cable run seems to work just fine. Removed the 2nd TV seeing as we never use it for TV anyway.
However, I have noticed with a single cable run with the weather being crap there may be very slight pixelation but still nothing compared to having two cables to a splitter as it's almost unwatchable.

That's the whole point. Marginal signal affects TVNZ mux first, presumably because of the frequency it operates on. I have had a similar issue.

It's definitely a factor but not the root cause of the issue; we are surrounded by many large evergreen trees and yes, when it's raining or has rained and the trees are still wet the signal is not exactly weak but it isn't great: TV1&2 are still watchable. I have not yet replaced the Antenna, Cables, Splitter, Check Terminations.

The issue only lies with TV1,2 and I think Duke as they are all on the same MUX.
