Well - awesome result - we were able to get terrestrial service!!! wooo hooo...albeit not strong, but it is enough to get consistent results....Except with one TV - after doing a search on the internet this TV (Samsung Series 6 40") might have an average reciever built into it. The other 2 TV's are fine in the house - solid as, no issue - but this one is unable to show TVNZ content (other content is fine however). Swapped them out so that they use the same cables/wallplate/etc and the 40" is always crapola and the others are always fine.

So am thinking of getting a STB for the terrestrial signal to be brought into for this one TV. Just need it to be basic viewing (ie no PVR) of HD content (ie include HDMI connection).

Recommendations for this scenario? Wanting to spend as little as possible to give me the desired results; so recommendations need to be price aware :)

Muchas Gracias people!

If your terrestrial signal is close to threshold , you would be better advised imho to upgrade / fix
your system rather than buy a STB. You may just run into the same problem.
Remember with Digital , 'solid as ' can be pretty close to ' no reception'Cool

An excellent point, which might cost about the same without the hassle of the stb.

The signal is as good as it is going to get where we are; I am simply greatful that we can get the terrestrial service. You are right though - the environment could change in a snap and I will have nothing simply because I am marginal in signal - but the current situation has been maximised and all other TV's are fine, just this one, so for the time being at least I want to get this dodgy one working too.

By the looks of things I will just jump in feet first and see what I come out with....

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Assuning you have the correct cables , terminations etc , have you had  someone with the correct equip
check that your antenna is positioned for the best signal?
If not , and you are shaded from the Tx , you can often double your signal doing this.
If one Mux is poor , it's a fair bet the others are not too flash either.
Also remember , unless you are in Auckland, after the frequency restack your levels will possibly go up a few dB.

PS AFAIK I have not come across any Samsung models with particularly poor sensitivity

Yeah - already have a dist amp. And everything was checked by an experienced person in the know last week.

From what I have read regarding the samsung model I have, people have experienced recievers which are more picky about signal, so am thinking/hoping that if a STB is a bit more forgiving about signal then it might pass it through - as Jaxson said though, just keep receipt to be sure :)

Well - just for completeness for this thread I will update it with my outcome.

I have gone and purchased a DishTV STB for this one TV and now all channels are as stunning as the other 2 TV's in the house. So something certainly less than average is going on with the internal decoder on that 1 TV.

All's well that ends well.

The Dish TV S7090 has fairly decent up-scalling - typically better than most TV's, but like others say, is buggy.
Having said that, I value picture quality over recording... so an up-scalling box is of greater value to me.
