Philica: Also does the stuttering effect all 500GB hdd's? What about the Samsung SpinPoint M7 HM500JI 8MB 500GB? Also a bazzer mentioned would it be worth going for a faster drive or larger cache? Does that stop the stuttering?

No one really knows, I'm afraid.  NZtechfreak doesn't seem to have a problem, I'm not sure what kind of hard drive he has.   If it's WD or Seagate then not sure how to explain that...
Great.. well i hope they manage to resolve the problem. I think ill hold off for abit till more information about this comes available.

Yes you will need a UHF antenna, where do you live and are you in the FreeviewHD coverage area?

Is it possible to put playtv through the same outlet at the same time?

What exactly are you asking here?

My SKY uses a satellite signal.
PlayTV uses a UHF aerial signal.

PlayTV works on the terrestrial/landbased/uhf/dvb-T/freeviewHD system only.
It does not plug into a satellite dish.

If you understand this perhaps you are referring to a video out up to the TV or other?

See previous comment above.

You will need some form of UHF signal.  You could get a real outside uhf aerial, tap into a feed from an existing uhf aerial if possible, or take your chances with an indoor flat panel aerial or a set of bunny ears etc.

A coat hanger may work, but really playTV will require the best signal you can feed it, so yes, you will need a uhf aerial.

Missed this earlier. Mine is just a WD drive, so I'm at a loss to explain why there are no problems here, but obviously happy about it :)

So its just a gamble if it works or not then? Sony needs to fix this issue. If your given the option to upgrade your HDD you might as well go large. I need a new HDD ive just been holding off given the stuttering issue with playtv. Do you think im safe getting the 500GB WD hoping Sony will fix the problem?

I setup the play tv. Im buried in the middle of a commercial building sky only no uhf aerial, but i found some old budget rabbit ears and thought i would try just to see. Bingo all channels found a few flickers here and there. Figure if i just upgrade to an indoor uhf flat panel or similar i should be good.

That's what I was going to do until I bought a cheap PVR.  What would you be putting on the HDD, just TV?  I'd honestly just go for the 320GB now if I knew all this beforehand.  Will you miss the 180GB right now?  You can always upgrade again later?

No not just tv. Game installs are killing my poor 40gb. Approximately how many hours of tv can i get for about 250gb?
