Jaxson: Still cheaper to import from UK by the looks of it. Mine arrived within 5 days way back when I got it, before I sold it because of unacceptable stuttering on mine (assumed linked to 500Gb hard drive?). Hope that's fixed if it was a cause.

Ditto.  Once upon a time I would've put some time/effort/money into getting a hard drive that worked, but now I have a standalone PVR I won't bother.  Still, it'd be nice if an update fixed it...

Nice, I checked just prior to coming to my night shift and it wasn't there, will install on arrival home tomorrow before bed. Anybody with insomnia have feedback on the update?

Thanks. I just downloaded the update

Before updating, it said:

Support for new features:
* Chat TV
* Facebook and Playstation Network recommendations
* Extended Guide information (not available in Australia)
* Community favourites (not available in Australia)
* Series Link (UK only)

However, down the very bottom before the update it said "The unlock for these features is available from the Playstation Store". After the update it stated that I would have to visit the Playstation Store to buy the new 'Chat TV', Facebook and PS Network recommendations and community favourites features (screw that, they're not important enough features to me).

I have however noticed that there's an option to select New Zealand as your location under the set-up menu, so that's good (since we had to choose Australia in the past). The EPG is still screwed up. On some channels it seems better, but for the majority of them it's the same as before (I have the PS3 connected to the internet so no trouble there, if they're even doing it that way yet).

For example, it shows TV1's programming until 12:30-1:00pm, whereas it only shows TV2's programming until 7:45-8:10am. TV3's programming gets shown until 9:30-10:00am, C4 until 12:30-1:00pm, Maori TV all the way until 5:00-5:30pm, and Prime until 12:00-1:00pm.

Hopefully they'll bring out another update before the official launch.

I've just visited the NZ Playstation Store via the PS3 and this is what it says:

"If you're a PlayTV owner, you can now download this upgrade for some great new features. Fancy recording an entire series with one click or a friendly live chat session for up to 64 users when you watch TV? Want to recommend shows to your friends via Facebook or check out the online community's favourite programmes? Upgrade now and get more from your TV.

You can even plan out your entire TV viewing schedule up to 7 days in advance with the new premium programme guide and search for upcoming shows and films by actor, director or genre.

And if you live in the UK, the new 'series recording' function means you'll never miss your favourite TV programmes again!

PlayTV owners must first update the PlayTV software before downloading this PlayTV Live Chat Upgrade. Don't forget to create a Playstation Network account as well, because to use most of the new features you'll need to be signed in to the Playstation Network first."

The cost of the upgrade pack is $15.50 NZD, or $11.63 NZD if you're a Playstation Plus members. I don't think I'm going to bother purchasing it. The only thing I'd be remotely interested in would be the 'premium programme guide', but I don't see why we should have to pay for it. I've already got Freeview built-in to my TV and also get the TV Guide in the mail every week so I can just as easily see the programme listings through there and set up a manual record on the PlayTV.

If anyone does happen to buy the upgrade pack, please come on here and tell us what you think.

I don't have one of these anymore but it would be interesting to see if you have to pay to get the EPG working if you buy the official NZ pack?!

I would have thought that the live chat thing would be a paid add on (despite how rude that is) but would not have thought you'd have to pay extra to get a working EPG!

Playstation store:

PlayTV Live Chat Upgrade (?6.29/?7.99) Rating: PEGI 16
Availability: Only available in Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and United Kingdom

I will be doing that tonight.
Had a quick play before going to work. Once you have installed the update you MUST do the full setup again and select New Zealand, once you have done this you will note the EPG is in the correct order and the NZ ratings will be correct.

More info later

Mike

Well, 2.01 did nothing to fix my stuttering issue so I won't bother downloading the new app. It's all a bit underwhelming. I'd be surprised if you had to pay for the app if you buy PlayTV here, probably they'll include a code in the box or something? Otherwise $200 then another $15 to use it to its fullest is a bit silly.

Also, choosing NZ seems to change the 1 minute skip to 10 minute skip (better than nothing, but useless for skipping ads) and x30 is the fastest FF speed.  I guess this is consistent with the Aussie restrictions.

Yes, if you choose "other" instead of NZ the original skipping will return. One + is the channels are in the correct order now and the ratings are correct.

Were they not in the correct order before?  I can't even remember, I probably got used to whatever order they were in.  Was it mux order before?  I wonder if there will be any actual disadvantages to using "Other" compared to NZ.  I don't consider accurate ratings a big deal and I'd rather have 1 minute skip than "correct" channel order.

No they where not in the correct order, it was in order of mux so it was TV1,2,TVNZ6 etc now it is in the same order as the MHEG5 EPG

I purchased the pack to see whether it changed anything, it doesn't. I guess we're still waiting until nearer the release date to get the full EPG support, I don't think the paid add-on will be required in order to use the EPG (just needed for stuff like one click season recording, which I will want and is why I didn't mind paying for the add-on now).

As others have said you get 10 minute skip and 30xFF under the NZ locale, but the times and station order are now correct.

Great to know. I hadn't noticed until I read your post. I've changed my region setting back to 'Other'. I'd rather keep the 1-min skip and 120x fast forward as opposed to having the channels in order (I only use it to record programmes, not to actually watch them live).

Wow, I thought it would have fixed the EPG problem for sure. Now I have my fingers crossed that they'll remedy the problem for free :). Thanks for the info! Let us know what the upgrade pack is like when PlayTV officially launches here. The one click season recording feature could very well be the reason I purchase the add-on (hopefully it's not a 'UK only' feature as mentioned in the PS Store).

I also purchased the pack so I can't determine whether it was because of the purchase, or because of the steps I took below.
However, I now how a full EPG. I haven't checked to see how many days it extends to, but a quick scroll through and I now have full channel listings.

EDIT: The EPG appears to list up till 30/11/2010, which is the 13-days that they originally stated.

Here's how:
When you do a full 'Channel Scan' in Settings  >  Set-up  >  Channel Scan, after the scan finishes it will prompt you with a Yes/No so that you can agree to the 'tvtv' T & C. Once you agree, it will then ask you to check the channel mappings, with the listings they provide. I didn't need to change any of the mappings.
Go back into live TV and hit the square button and you should have a full 7+ day EPG!! Smile

Some other notes:
I like how they have added the option to set a recording to start and stop between 1 - 30mins before and after the scheduled times. Very useful.

I don't like the fact that we have lost the 1min skip feature. I will stay on the NZ locale for a while and see if it annoys me enough to go back to 'other'. I wonder if I will be able to map the tvtv EPG listings using the 'other' locale?

It appears to have lost the 'Move to home menu' option. Another reason why I might go back to using the 'other' locale.

I just tried exactly what you did but had no luck unfortunately. It must be specific to the add-on. I tried it with both the 'Other' and 'New Zealand' location feature, and also with the Ethernet cable connected and disconnected, but it didn't give me any option to agree to T&C's after doing a channel scan.
