Still on 3.12 here. Is the ff/rw less annoying on 3.14?

The ffwd/rewind seems to be a heck of a lot better than it was with the previous versions, with no "hanging" or lag. One thing i would like to see with a future version would be for the Magic tv to have the same capabilities as the Sony Play Tv,which has  a maximum of 120x ffrwd/rewind. My son has one of these machines, and boy! that thing is fast...

Thanks butlerboy, Jaxson, casewindow and wiredr for all your help and suggestions. Sorry for not updating sooner but I was ignorant about how our system was setup as had relied on the technicians to do it all - at great expense and little success. Anyway, the tech had connected the included extension cable to the loop-out connector of MagicTV and to the 'antenna in' of the tV in order to retain analogue TV reception. Since removing this optional cable pixilation has stopped. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again.

cb1: Version 3.14 is now available from http://www.magictv.co.nz/support.html No release notes yet, but looks like jumped from 3.13 betas to 3.14.

Loaded ok, doesn't seem to be any new features, but the 10 minute jump forward/back is now reinstated. Reserve judgement on the smoothness of the ff/rw.

i have gotten used to the 4 min skip forward so using 3.14 is not going to happen . imo the ff frw is no different
so i am sticking to 3.13 beta 6. a change log would be handy . fail to see what the big secret is .

i finally figured out how to stream from the vu+ duo to other pc's on our network , awsome . pity the magic is hobbled so much it would be great to watch hd elsewhere in our house .
will be interesting to see whether the isky can be streamed .

Freeviewshop also has the 3.14 update available with the comment - Features added/improved in firmware version 3.14
- Turns off S/PDIF when in standby

FF/RW seems vastly improved, though I do miss the 10 forward/6 back

I agree, the FF/FW seems to have improved, but still not as smooth as the MySky.

No, not the slightest change with jumpiness of ffwd/frwd. I was convincing myself a few months back too but it's not so. It has never improved imho.

I think what really happens is that people just learn to manage it. No matter how bad the problem is.

FF/FR definitely looks smoother on my unit. Could it be that my unit is only a few months old and I have very little stored on it, so there's no HDD fragmentation? Maybe that's why it looks smoother on some units and not on others?

Yep the 6/4 skip was perfect for ads, can't believe they've removed it! I won't be upgrading to 3.14 either. Why can't they just fix the FF/RW on this thing!!

It looks like there is no real benefit in upgrading to 3:14 but since I loaded 3:13 beta4 and beta6 my magic has started to jump at the 1 hour mark when recording.
When you record a program it jumps forward when it has been recording for exactly one hour. I have no idea at this stage how big the jump is. It is very frustrating as I have a 2 minute extend at the start so the one hour mark often falls just before the end of a one hour program and so the end is missing.
Others have reported this fault as well.
Has anyone found a solution to it??

@Nutts

My guess is that your Instant Rewind is set to "On" and your Instant Rewind Period is set to 1 hour.

Two possible work-arounds. Set your Instant Rewind to "Auto" or set your Instant Rewind Period to 3 or 5 hours.

Are you sure it was still doing it with 13beta6 because I thought that was one of the things they fixed?  My tests indicated it had been fixed.

Thanks for the advice. Just checked it and your are correct. Its on and set to one hour. Have extended it to 5 hours.
Yes it is definitely doing it on both beta 4 and 6. Strange that I have only had the problem since installing these versions. It was fine prior to that. I guess I had it set to more than an hour with the earlier versions and the default with the new firmware is 1 hour.
Thanks again for the help.

I had 1 hour skip/jump bug on my unit. Think it was with firmware 3.12. Not sure what my instant rewind setting was set to then but I sent the unit back and magic sent me a brand new box. No problems since then! So if it isn't fixed by changing the settings I would recommend contacting magic and sending it for repair.
