cb1: Can you confirm that the problems with the Magic TV 3600 I mentioned in the previous update have been reported to Pixel Magic and they are being actively worked on? Any estimates of when fixes will be available?

we have contacted them and provide information that is reported to have however since the last time I checked there has been no more information, I will try look over tonight and get back to you if there has been any update, I only information I have recently found is the CH 600 issue which has now been resolved.

Hi DishTV. I've just found this forum + topic and the opportunity for feedback about your products :) I have a s7090PVR bought just before xmas and have found it a good receiver. I bought it to supersede a single tuner ultraplus receiver which was good too, but the 7090 has as the ability to record one channel while watching another with its dual tuners. This was the main selling point and it has given us sterling service since day one.

However, as has been mentioned above, its remote is terrible. The IR beam must be very, very narrow as it has to be pointed directly at the box to work. It's not flat batteries as I have tested it with brand new batteries and it still has to be pointed directly at the box to work. It is the 1st remote I have found to do this. Generally they have to be pointed vaguely at whatever device and they work. Not this one - I have even considered fitting it with a laser pointer to help ;) Even when it's aimed well, the buttons have to be firmly pressed compared to other remotes. As has been mentioned, it _sometimes_ takes 3 or 4 or 5 presses for whatever command to be carried out.

The box's software is ok, even if it does look dated now with its shaded 3d effect to the buttons / menu options. Sometimes they are difficult to read with different light in the room. In theory this could easily be updated with a software update to give a flatter, cleaner look? [which is more current too giving an added bonus to existing customers]

I have the box connected via hdmi cable and it's doing a great job of displaying the non HD DVB-S signal. Another point which could be improved upon in the software is the library page ; it only displays 6 items at a time. Surely with a HD signal via the hdmi cable many more at a time could be listed with smaller size text? Or at least the ability to see more with a zoom option for example?

One selling point of this box was its internet connectivity via its wired connection. But the current eNet function is next to useless & mystifying why it's even there. emap / email / weather?!?! Hopefully this opportunity to incorporate TVNZ on demend / 3now / Netflix / YouTube etc is only an imminent software update away?

I hope I'm not too late with posting this feedback & DishTV is still listening. Thank you for the opportunity - the 7090 is good, but it could be even better :)

We are still listening :) And thanks for the feedback which I have passed on, Our new MyFreeview units feature a brand new UI with the requests you have mentioned however is still under wraps. At this stage the current products will receive no new features/UI upgrades. However never say never :-)

Have a couple of S7070r in the house.

Used to have one in my old camper where I had a 230v inverter.

Would like an S7070R or similar with a 12v option and maybe a remote plug-able IR sensor.

I found a similar problem with a myFreeview unit (wasn't S7090, they have Freeview|HD) my parents had - the supplied remote was pants.
I bought them a Harmony remote and the issue went away - so the IR receiver on the unit is good, the remote sent with the unit is crap.

They now have a MagicTV 3700 and they love the remote that came with that, so I have not setup the Harmony for them for this device yet (and the MagivTV remote has TV volume and power buttons, which is all they'd need the Harmony for anyway).

i love the new box and have one on order..my biggest gripe is that those of us restricted to watching satellite feeds have no HD... when are we going to see some pressure from freeview to start broadcasting at least the base channels in HD or even offer up Freeview+ to the rest of us.

You will need to create that pressure to TVNZ, Mediaworks and SKY to unlock HD channels, and Freeview has said that they may introduce FreeviewPlus to Satellite viewers however again you will need to keep emailing and contacting Freeview to build pressure to do so. The S8200 is HbbTV ready

TV one is still broadcast 5 times or so from memory, to provide regional advertising. This surely chews up a lot of space.

At the end of the day though, it's not Dish TV's problem, and it's not Freeviews problem. Freeview is little more than a marketing campaign (against whom I'm not entirely sure...)
Freeview will divert any curly questions to the broadcasters and they take little responsibility for the overall issues such as HD on satellite.
I agree TV 1 - 3 (and Prime for gods sake) should be in HD on both platforms.
Prime though are Sky and sky still charge for HD as a $10 addon, so I doubt we'll see Prime in HD any time soon.

It seemed a valid concept though to tie freeview plus to UHF transmission areas only, as they area also the ones most likely to have broadband access too.

Having owned 3x T1020s can I support what has been said on this thread about the T1xxx's various bugs.

The first one had an overheating problem, and your service people replaced it. The second one just could not cope with HD recordings, regardless of how big small or fast the USB flash, self-powered or USB-powered HDD drives were attached. Gave it away and tried my luck with a third one but secondhand.

The HD problem is still true of the third one I have to a degree, so we've mostly given up recording HD programmes and it does the trick.

So if you could use hardware that can cope with the tasks they are meant to do that would be one huge step forward. And software that just works as opposed to bugs, resets, firmware updates, and more glitches... even though i'm kind of a masochist debugger.

Otherwise the EPG guide and recording are the big strength, look nice and work quickly, but still prone to the odd bug (recording +1 channels at same time and stuffing things up as mentioned). Just focusing on excellence in this principal function - watching/recording freeview - might be better than trying and failing to do all the media player/DLNA/etc etc stuff.
