LennonNZ: They will think its strange that lots of people from New Zealand in a short time are buying exactly the same thing....

Maybe they will be grateful for the business. Smile
But yeah, it would seem pretty weird.

Damn it, I put one in my cart but when I had to create an account my cart got emptied and now I can't add it back again! It says "In Stock" but "Currently Unavailable". I'll give it another go tomorrow...

Maybe we have nearly wiped out their stock, and they are doing a stocktake to make sure they have enough for the current plus future orders?

Oh well, not much cheaper than getting my friend to bring it back from the UK, but still would have been nice. I've sent them an email, we'll see what they say. Also, shouldn't we be saving the 15% VAT since it's going outside the EU, or is that how that fund their "free" shipping?

I haven't had confirmation that they have sent mine yet. Damn you probably got the last one.Cry

I looked up where MyMemory run from and it is a place called Jersey which is part of the Channel Islands. It says that it is actually not technically part of the EU, so I don't know if they are even charging VAT?

If anyone has mates in the UK, I'm ordering one from Currys. They have free (UK only) delivery at the moment, and it's only ?45!

From MyMemory T&C:
"The price of all goods and services advertised are inclusive of any applicable UK taxes including VAT."

So the VAT shouldn't be applied for exports, however you might get slapped with our Govt Surplus Tax which is only slightly less.  A bit of give and take take take.

Has anyone else had GST slapped on importing PlayTV?

I don't think it is likely that customs will sting you for the surplus GST. It usually has to be above $400 for it to be worth it for them.

So if all the goods are "inclusive" of the VAT already, should it not automatically deduct it when you place an order for delivery outside of the UK? I didn't see it explicitly state a VAT deduction when I change the country to NZ.

Customs only sting you if the Duty + GST is over $50. Since there's no duty, then as long as the value is under $400 you won't get charged ($400 x 12.5% = $50). However, $408 x 12.5% = $51 + ($28.75 Import Entry Transaction Fee + $4 biosecurity risk screening levy) = $83.75 total charges! I don't know if they always cahrge those extra fees, I try not to order anything worth over $400!

Maybe I have been lucky but I have ordered stuff worth way more than that (US$600 comes to mind) and I have never been charged - knock on wood so to speak!

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Luck is all it is, they can't check everything thoroughly. I assume the correct value was listed on the declaraion? You'll get pinged one day but until then, their loss!
