Garglo: Come on you guys in Auckland with a Optical audio drop out problem on your amp from the ET box, its a chance to get this sorted.  Call Peter on 027 493 7025 if you can help.

The engineer is here also to witness the other issues affecting ET with the local environment.   You want PVR, you want this and that, its you last chance.   From my experience in dealing with China, I would say to get the engineer to come here and address the problems locally has been a very difficult.  NZ is a very small market and the sales quantities here are insignificant compared with most other countries.  Ive been to small cities in China that have 7million population!  NZ 4million compared with most other countries is small fry.

Put up your hand and give the guy a chance to get things fixed.  I have no problems myself but obviously others of you do.  Luckily, maybe I have a perfect receiver.  I dont have a SPIF amp, so I can't help with this.
I have tried to get data from this forum with 1 or 2 responses to help solve problems.
Requests have left me highly frustrated and I have not been back here for at least 3 months.

I would say if no one fronts up to this request, then DONT BLEAT ABOUT THIS IN THE FUTURE.

Will the engineers visit be in vain???

How long is the engineer here for? I don't use the optical audio, and the way Pete conducted himself on this forum leaves me disinclined to help him to be honest.

Understandable view of course, but on the other hand its acknowledgement that there are problems and a possibility to get them resolved.

The audio issue isnt an issue for me - I dont use that. The issues are:
1) Pixelation
2) The record facility would be nice but (1) is the main issue.
3) I noticed that the subtitle/captions are out of sync by a second or so - I expect thats probably easy to fix

Would be good to get someone that has tried another box and had that work perfectly (ie no pixelation) where the ET goes crazy. That would be a good situation to examine.

I might call pete and send my box back up to him it hasnt been used in weeks and it has pixilation and the clock looses time and is a long way out unless it is refreshed by turning off and on. Usually the remote wont work to turn it on after its been idle for a day or two also. I havent had problems with Audio but im just using the composite outputs and both lower audio outputs have been fine.

So as an aside, audio dropouts have been a problem with MythTV uses in NZ especially noticable on C4 and the kordia mux channels. LOTs of messages in the logs. This has been recently patched and issue was that the audio is significantly to severely lagging the video in some cases when transmitted by Freeview. With MaoriTV test pattern it as 850ms behind!!. Increasing the buffer size and allowing a greater delaying of he video fixed most issues.

I doubt it.  If Satlink were serious about fixing the issues Peter would have arranged a list of people having these problems for the engineers to visit.

He would have done some basic testing on amplifiers and ET boxes at his place and if the problem didn't occur there he would test at the customer's house with a box and amplifier that were known to work.

This would give him a list of boxes that didn't work at customer houses and hopefully some that didn't work at his site too.

Instead all he does is go "wah wah wah, my gear is fine, the problem is the signal at your place, your amplifier, your eyes wah wah wah".

Things like signal quality could well be an factor in these problems but if his competitors have boxes that can handle it and he doesn't then he needs to fix his box.
