Are you using the SPDIF for the audio output? I can get up to 20 dropouts an hour some nights, which makes for a thoroughly unpleasant viewing experience.

Other than that, the wandering clock, the irrepairable hardware fault in the lower two RCA connectors, occasional freezing requiring a reboot, etc the box is excellent.

I know what you mean.

I really only use the coaxial audio out when I'm watching something on TV3 that is in 5.1, and don't get too many dropouts on that.

The wandering clock doesn't sound bad, but it's very annoying and makes looking at the EPG difficult sometimes as its set too far in the future to see what's on currently and doen't always reset the clock immediately. I find I have to change channels.

As for the RCAs, I only have one set hooked up and either I got lucky and my unit's good or I hooked them up to the top ones.

My biggest issue is sometimes the audio will stuff up and get a very annoying noise instead. Really annoying when you've recorded soemthing and it happens halfway through!

50/50 and you must have picked the top ones. All the bottom ones have issues.

sounds promising, i guess im a lucky one with no audio dropout, im just using the HDMI between box and tv for now. what new on the firmware?

I've just put it in now. PVR is here but trying to get it running now. It is timer based.

The menu structure has changed slightly and the font is different.

Will advise later when I have had a play.

" Here’s a bit of feedback on what I have noticed so far. You probably already have these under development.
-    I can’t find an option to get an recording running instantly. It seems like the closest the unit can come to recording something ‘now’ is my setting a timer recording a minimum of 3 minutes ahead.
-    When setting a recording too close to real time, the error message generated is “Timer Recording is Failed”. “The Timer Recording Has Failed” would probably be better. It would only be a line of code to fix.
-    The engineer mentioned that the USB port on the back was powered and would support 2.5in HDDs. It appears that this is not the case as only my Flash drives have worked so far. My 2.5in HDD did not spin up when connected. I’ll try a powered 3.5in drive tomorrow and see what happens.
-    I’m still getting SPDIF dropouts. I assume this is still software without the SPDIF fix.
-    When in playback mode, it would be a good idea to colour code the FF, RW on screen buttons to match those of the remote.
-    If timer recordings are set, and the unit needs to be restarted by powering off and on again, all the booked recordings are lost. Some other units have the ability to save these settings to the removable disk and importing them again as necessary. If the unit still needs to be restarted weekly, then this is going to be a real problem.
-    When setting the timer, you have the ability to scroll all the way to 29 O’clock.

Wishlist.
-    Timeshifting would be a really good feature to have as well.
-    Scheduled recordings of repeating programs would be good to have. "

The recordings are in .TS format, so they are going to be a bit os a bastard to edit. I've done a bit of a search on the net and editors for Transport Stream files in H.264 format are as rare as Nun's Testicles. Has anyone else seen one?

Exciting stuff! The timer based programming will be sufficient to start with, but I have to say I thought it would be pretty standard functionality these days, as they've been around since the 80's at least in VCR's. Being able to put enter 29 hours is a little disconcerting, and no weekly, daily events, but if it works ....

I was looking at the thread on the JC Mathew model and the format of the files is .TRP. The last update recommends using SUPER to edit them and it also handles .TP files. It is Freeware, avaiable at -

Here is exactly what he said

So even though Satlinknz is providing the software, apparently there is no warrantly with it. Go figure . . . . .

TS Doctor doesn't work. It scans the resultant file and fails on a "PMT test". Must be the wrong calender date or something.

. I'm haviong a go with SUPER now.
