A few weeks ago we found that Freeview channels 3, 4, 8, 9 and 11 were programed but kept cutting out. Other channels have been working fine.

Today I rescanned both by channel and frequency, all channels except those owned by Mediaworks, work fine.

I am aware that MediaWorks had outages earlier this year but these issues have been over the last month. Currently the MediaWork channels are not programed in the tv as scans can not find them.

You have a reception problem. Misaligned aerial, loose connection or similar.

Those channels are all broadcast on the same mux, so you will either get them all, or none of them.
Think of a mux as a "channel" that carries a bunch of different sources. In this case media works has a mux for its offerings, TVNZ has one (or two ?) for its offerings etc etc

Digital TV either works or it won't. As soon as the signal drops enough you will get nothing.
