Hi guys- I was pointed towards using 24/7 hosting to host domains I required for a new business. There has been an issue with the hosting of these sites since day 1 and I have received no support or resolution despite it being over 6 weeks- the support line goes nowhere and the online tickets remain open or are closed without resolution. Also just to add a bit of salt to the wounds we paid our account twice (mis-comm between me and the lovely wife/ accounts payable division ; ) . Despite asking several times for a refund and to resolve the domain issues nothing has been done,, I feel like I've been scammed and looking at some other threads I have since discovered a history of poor service, disgruntled 'customers' etc I probably have.

I am unsure of what to do next in terms of transferring my domains, the best way of publicly naming and shaming them, free legal advice etc.. I would not normally go to these lengths but its been 6 weeks of know response, sitting on support lines, raising tickets etc..

Can anyone advise?

Do you have access to the new UDAI codes? Just cut your losses and port your domains away to someone else :)

I have heard that 1stDomains and 24/7 have had an ownership change. That came out of conversation, casually, so I'm not sure if that is recent or ongoing, but feel free to look it up.

1stDomains and Net24 were sold to Voyager Internet, 24/7 Hosting is a separate company.

I stand corrected, thank you, but that means the OP can now go to 1st Domains who I have had no trouble with for years and looks like their parent owns a host, who is also well known.

I have my own hosting platform and I use ISPConfig3 as a control panel. I havent had any problems for the few yers it's been up and possibly had less than an hours down time in the last few years - and those where comms issues with carriers.

There are a lot of choices out there, always vote with your wallet.

Transferring domains? Yes, people can help.

Name/shame? This is frowned upon here. At this point your post turns into a soapbox and that's not what this forum is for.

To move your domains/hosting:

1. Get your UDAI (transfer approval) from your old provider - this takes time, so do it first - you may have to be rude and demanding if their control panel does not have this service.

2. Create an account at a DNS provider such as 1stdomains.co.nz and select 'transfer domain' this will prompt for the number from 1. This process takes time, so do it while you sus out your hosting options.

3. Find a host by trawling through the forums here and look for recommendations. If you are not technical, you will want a host with a good support record. If you are technical, you will want a reliable host with lots of options.

4. Once you have a host, setup a hosting plan in their control panel and use that IP address they give you and put it into the 1stdomains control panel and wait up to 72 hours for the record to work.

If you just want all of this done quickly, find an all in one provider who can do this for you and you just wear the extra charge. A complete hosting solution, that is supported and managed for you (excludes your webpage and it's content) should be under $100/mo and should be up and running in less than a week. If you want a web page and it's content too, that would be extra depending on what you want and hope to achieve.

I've just had (for the second time in as many months) 247 hosting cancel an active domain leaving the website unreachable. This one was mine thankfully and I saw it happening with Pingdom but it was still out of action for 12 hours.

The last time was a friends and the site was down for three days before they sorted it out.

As you say 247's support is a joke at the moment. The phone is never answered, messages are never replied to, they only answer emails to say 'Sorry for the inconvenience, the site will be back in an hour' and there is never any correlation between the time it says you will receive on a answer on the website to when you do actually receive an answer.

1stdomain's here I come.

I am having a similar issue with 24/7. They apparently haven't renewed my domain (even though the payment to them has gone through) and now my website and emails are unavailable. Have been trying to contact them via support tickets (no response) and email, and phone (0800 constantly engaged, local 03 number sounds disconnected). Unfortunately I have just renewed my service for them for another year and now they seem to have dropped off the planet.

I would only ever use Godaddy. Little more expensive but the best hands down.

My mother's domain expired, despite having been paid up. Its been down for 24hrs and I've just logged a ticket.
The 0800 number of course goes nowhere. Very unimpressed.

Assuming you can get the UDAI, transfer it out and renew it with the new provider.

I would suggest do whatever you can to get your data/domain off there and to a new host.

Remember Godaddy is US hosting whereas many want NZ hosting...

I have had issues with these guys too. Luckily I didn't move my services to them, just lost a bit of money which I doubt i'll get back.

I would suggest making a complaint to the Commerce Commission - http://www.comcom.govt.nz/the-commission/making-a-complaint/

I have been using 1st Domains for about 10 years now, never had an issue.
