I use remoteapplicationmode to emulate the "Win XP integrated mode" in Win8. I was thinking it would be useful in Win2K8R2 also to run workstation applications on a server and thought, why not utilise hardware passthrough via RemoteFX, however, whenever I try to connect I get the old "[4005] The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated" error.

I started by configuring a RDP file using the normal UI, then started to modify the .RDP to manually add the following:

remoteapplicationmode:i:1
disableremoteappcapscheck:i:1
alternate shell:s:rdpinit.exe
remoteapplicationname:s:Internet Explorer 8
remoteapplicationprogram:s:C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

yes, Application Mode can be used with RemoteFX.

To address Event 4005, based on this this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/1f41d1e2-ce83-4cc0-a6fc-6cbcd428c5cc/hyperv-30-unable-to-rdp-to-win7sp1-which-has-remotefx-enabled?forum=virtualmachingmgrhyperv, I created a new connection, tested that it fails, then set the experience to "LAN (10 Mbps..)", which set the following attributes in the .RDP file

connection type:i:6
networkautodetect:i:0
allow font smoothing:i:1
allow desktop composition:i:1
disable full window drag:i:0
disable menu anims:i:0

Window mode requires lower resources, so to use in Application Mode I increased the VM RAM to 2GB and vProcs to 4 and now working successfully.
