My system is: http://ark.intel.com/products/56413/Intel-Server-System-P4308CP4MHGC

  • Dual 750W redundant power supplies
  • Dual Xeon E5-2630v2 CPU
  • Up to 16 RAM DIMM (currently 8)
  • Up to 8 7200k SATA HDD (current 5 + 2 SSD)
  • 1x DVD Drive
  • 3x PCIe Cards; SoundBlaster, 4 Port USB 3.0, ATI FirePro 2460 Quad MiniDP
Only need UPS to support shutdown of system (enough time to save VMs state) and possibly UFB ONT (~15W consumption) / HG659 (<24W consumption) router for the same amount of time to send alerts etc.

I'm currently looking on PriceSpy so should I be safe to go for a UPS rated for >800W and up to around 10min (less for lower wattage)?

Also looking at: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=UPSBLZ02200&name=Blazer-II-2200VA1100W-Line-Interactive-UPS--12V9Ah

Jase2985: we have a similar server at work with slightly less drives, and each power supply use about 150w so 300w's all up.

I'm not sure if that's how my one works. It seems like it only uses one PSU (solid light on) and the other goes into standby (flashing light) until it detects one is offline.

I ended up going with the Blazer II 2200VA for $200 from PBTech and seems good so far. With 2yr warranty and redundant PSU to carry out tests (or even stick on another UPS) not sure how much can go wrong.
