Great!

Now the government is wiretapping the entire country's internet to defend MPAA/RIAA's interests!

So much for "by the people, for the people".

The sad thing about this situation is it is the geeks that are making the out cry on this. In the long run it will be mum and dad with no tech experience and the kids that know enough to pirate but not enough to protect. The geeks who pirate however will just adjust.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

The fact is most of the stuff downloaded wouldnt be bought by the people anyhow if p2p didnt exist so reality these geedy media coys arent loosing a thing.. most that use it have no money for such things

in fact most people like to check out something first before buying and p2p offers that
i doubt very much people steal music of movie and dont want to support their favourite actor or musician..

they would be better cutting out the middle man making all the money and putting it on the web directly anyhow... theres a group of such people in UK opposing this silly bill there
saying it will kill their revenue not save it. think again was a paranoma BBC docu on this

theres more a grey area then black and white.

this bill will be a can of worms wait and see.. i will laugh my bum off when we see a MO sent a infringmenet cos a group hacked his pc to make a ooint and download illegal stuff.. since hes meant to control it being in his name..
there be cases like this to come.. wait and see..

its going to be funny.. atleast telstra had some brains and could see the problems to come and the extra work involved...

poor parents.. they just dont have a clue what their kids can do

its going to be joe avg getting caught not the hard core people

Stop spreading FUD, that's not how it works.
(How it works is the MPAA/RIAA contract out companies to trawl bittorrent trackers/p2p apps and then fire off notices to ISPs)

YES! That makes it much better and less violating civil liberty.

What's next? Police contract out companies to trawl "possible crime related" phone calls and then fire off notices to prosecutors? All without a warrant?

Then you hit the next big problem - season mismatch.

The American shows typically screen between September & May.

If network programmers here schedule shows immediately after they screen in the USA, that leaves nothing for the months when weather here is at it's worst - june, july & august, and potential audiences are at their biggest (or so the argument goes..)

Perhaps this would be a good to for NZ content to be scheduled.

How about watched a youTube clip from a TV program/Film/music video that was not posted by the owner and posted from your country of residence.

Copied a CD/Tape/Album before the audio format shift change came in? Heck I remember most hi-fi's and tape decks having a tape-to-tape function built in!! (FTW Melissa Lee)

Kept a VHS tape/PVR recording of a TV program/Film longer than is reasonably necessary to view it

Recorded from the radio

Anybody really still got their hand up? Either you are lying or have a short/selective memory!

So presuming the vast majority of us have infringed copyright at some point in our life (and probably continue to do so), has it ruined the music, TV or film industry or are the rich players still getting richer?

Procrastination eventually pays off.

This passing law under urgency was something that Labour used to do, and is the sign of a goovernment who is very comfortable with their position, and that they know will be voted in again, which they no doubt will be. It reminds me a bit of the anti smacking bill.

My concern about this bill, is small homerun businesses. They may share their internat connection and have kids who use the internet, who then end up getting their business's interent disconnected.

I remember hearing on Leo Laprtes podcast , that some media companies were claiming that they had lost trillions of dollars in lost revenue in a year due to the internet and file sharing. He said something along the lines of, that the number they were claiming was more than the GDP of the USA and the UK combined. That is just madness, because not everyone who would have shared content, would have instead purchased it if filesharing wasn't avaliable. This bill doesn't affect me as I don't fileshare, but I can see problems for people down the track.

Amen brother!

I guess my point is, government would never dare to pass a law allowing police trawling "possible crime related" phone calls without a warrant. But somehow they have no problem passing a law that allows corporates do similar things.
