Hi,
I can't get my ICS enabled S2 phone to register a static IP address for use with WiFi. I've seen snippets of info here and on XDA about this problem but little resolution. Can anybody tell me how to set up a static address with WPA2 encryption without the IP address reverting to 192.168.1.128?

thanks,

SB

Can you get your router to dhcp assign a static ip? A lot of routers have this functionality built in. You simply add the mac address of the phone and the required ip address in the router administration.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

On ICS on my phone you can long touch on the Wifi network and select modify network, scroll down a bit and tick show advanced options.

There should be an IP settings dropdown box which you can change to Static.

Cheers

I tried the second suggestion above but the saved IP still reverts to 192.168.1.128 and the gateway to 192.168.1.1 and no connection. It works OK at home on DHCP.

Any other ideas? Is there a saved setting I should delete? Is it related to the security protocol WPA/WPA2 PSK?

I couldn't try the first suggestion in full earlier for fear of annoying colleagues on the network but will when the rest of the office has gone home.

Got my head around your suggestion and implemented it successfully this morning. Thanks Hairy1.

Glad it worked out. The router assigned ip address is a good option as you don't need to change settings on the device all the time if you are using different networks.

Cheers.
