coolcat21: Guys, quick question. I"ve spotted the case that I like on Amazon and am just about to buy it.

But i'm not sure whether to send it on a separate shipping or combine it with the nx5.

And I'm not sure when the nx5 or the case will arrive ..for combined shipping to work.

Help me out here ?

The case is only USD 6  (tho from amazon...who ships AIR)

Just put them both together, otherwise you are up for 20 shipping for the case and 30 for the phone

The phone was only released today, so how would there be any cases available yet (The exact dimensions were only confirmed a couple of days ago with the Canadian carrier leak - let alone the device profile)

Well if you used "you shop" then just wait till both are at the warehouse, nzpost will send you an email and at that stage i think you can them to package them together.

leaked information coming out for months, plus photos of the device, and the service manual was leaked weeks ago with all the info in it.
So not hard to get something made when a service manual was leaked

kiwijunglist: it wont be $800, it will be $899 i think

Still not bad for the kind of phone, and when the sales hit for xmas you can drop that by 10 - 20 % depending on how demanding you are at a shop

I'm not so sure, I think locally the S4 would be better value.  It is smaller, with a bigger better quality screen, better sunlight legability, doesn't have screen space taken up by onscreen buttons, purportedly has a better camera (surprisingly) and google has said they wont update nexus devices after 18months of age.  So the only thing going for it is snapdragon 800 vs 600.

Yes but i hate samsung phones (the feel of them is cheap) and i like my updates to come soon after release, not months later and out of date when they do turn up.

Plus even if samsung release updates they get delayed by telco's here.

our local s4's (i9505) can be flashed with the google play edition rom. I see your point, but I still think locally purchased N5s will not be competitive, I don't think the timely updates are worth it.

The leaked dimension specs LxWxD were wrong. The ones released by the Canadian telco (I forget what they are called) were right and match the now official specs, but they still don't really give a proper device profile (curves, edges, protrusions etc)

I would be astonished if any case available for order today would fit the device properly. Basically no one has their hands on this phone yet to properly profile and develop a case - lease of all the cheap Chinese sellers.

Edit: ^ apart from the official cases from Google.LG

There are already whispers about the Google Play edition devices starting to increasingly lag behind the Nexus update developments, and it still relies on the manufacturer to co-operate, which they seem to lose interest in pretty quickly once there is a new model out

Well the cases that I bought for my Iphone 4 and 5 (both times before or on launch day) were both the perfect size so I am guessing select manufacturers get told the dimensions prior to launch so they can make cases ready for launch day.

Yes, you're probably right. There will be a couple of 'big names' who were in on the project (under strict NDA). Anything cheap off eBay, Deal Extreme etc I would not trust.
