NZtechfreak:
lillow: Does anyone know if it takes a normal sim or micro sim?
Also where can i buy a clear screen protector from for it?

Normal SIM of course, I don't think anyone but Apple uses micro SIMs.

Yeah don't think any other phones ship or will ever ship with them, not if the embedded SIM becomes the way(which to me just sounds like the original CDMA)

Oh and all those worried about Clove charging early, they did the same thing last year with the Galaxy S, just to ensure all the orders ship when they are available. They also came out a few days earlier last year!

I'm really hoping they come out on the 29th and ship on that date or the 28th.  I see Phones4U UK has the 27th as the release date due to being Samsung buddies

It's a shame that all the nz orders can't be combined somehow to save on shipping, I chose the slower cheaper freight (because I wanted to try avoid gst on entry) and it still cost about $50 for freight. I suppose if you combined them all though it'd be very likely to get gst applied and would slow it down the process more, paying for the exclusivity of getting it first I suppose.

For anyone interested, found this thread on XDA. This guy appears to have a final retail version of the S2, doing some pretty good tests.

AFAIK its hit and miss with the standard option, pretty much guaranteed with the courier option, I used this last year and got charged as it was Fedex or DHL (can't remember which) and they seem to be pretty on top of charging people, I suppose they would get into trouble if they didn't. So I chose the standard option this time round. Hopefully others can shed some light on the odds with standard freight.

so i just preordered off clove and they sent me a email telling me they want to do a security check to see if im who i said i was.have any of u done this or not bothered with it?
This is the email i got:

We appreciate you would like to receive your order as soon as possible! If this is your first time purchasing from Clove Technology please could you complete one of the security procedures below. If you have paid with credit or debit card, please complete option A or B. If you have paid using PayPal, please complete option B ONLY. This will speed up delivery of your order and prevent unauthorised card transactions.

If you have purchased from Clove previously, there is no need to do this - we will contact you if any information is required.

A) You can contact your card issuer for the Pre-Authorisation Code relating to your transaction with Clove. There is a unique code for every pending card transaction and your card issuer will only give this information to the card holder. We can see this code on your transaction and when you confirm it to us via email, phone or fax your order will be security cleared. Please note that if we are NOT delivering to the registered card holder address you will need to complete this procedure, as option B will be insufficient.

OR

B) If we are delivering to the registered card holder address or verified PayPal address, you can email or fax a copy (photo, scan or pdf) of your passport, or any official document showing the registered card/account holder?s name and address (such as a driving license or bank statement or other utility bill). If sending a bank statement, we understand that you may wish to conceal certain pieces of information. This is fine providing we can at least see your name and address. If the statement is in another language (not English) we can still accept this.

Your co-operation with this security procedure is appreciated and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Unboxing here, probably the best unboxing i've seen(better than the rally car, speedboat, parachute, mountain climber, rollercoaster)

At the end there is vomit all over the phone :)

.
No VAT on international orders.so its just 440pounds plus either 24pounds airmail or 30pounds for courier.
So mine came to 956nz dollars.
I choose Airmail shipping as others seem to think you are less likely to get charged GST and customs charges.
If you do get stung by customs you will be looking at around 200dollars.

I've just checked the Customs web site, and it doesn't appear that there's a duty in cellphones. That just means you have to pay GST.

Your GST bill will be 15% of the cost (including shipping) + $25.20 import transaction fee + $12.77 MAF screening levy. Customs have a fixed set of exchange rates on their web site for converting the source currency to NZD. And depending on who handles the package when it comes into the country, you may also have to pay that party a fee (e.g. DHL charges their own additional fee).

Assuming that the cost of phone + shipping is 464 GBP, and the phone arrives between the 2nd and 15th of May, the Customs-converted price is 464 / 0.48 = $NZ966.67. GST on this is $145, so with the import fee and MAF levy you're looking at $182.97. Any handling fees will be in addition to this.

[Note: I'd post the links for Customs import duties and exchange rates, but I'm not allowed to post links yet.]

From the look of things, there doesn't appear to be any issue with the GPS either :D

I'm curious to know the actual hit rate on getting charged GST on arrival with previous orders from Clove using the cheaper freight option. Would be great if I could save $180 odd dollars.
