Hey there.

For the last few weeks or so I've been fighting off the urge to purchase the Galaxy S. I've been assisted greatly by the device's less than perfect GPS. I work on the principle that if your going to purchase a convergent device, then at least all parts should work well and meet expectation etc.

I'm sure a few of us would have liked to be at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where the Galaxy S II has been previewed by many online mobile phone blogs/magazines (http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/event/event_overview.htm).

Is anybody else interested in the Galaxy S II?

I guess it'll all come down to thorough reviews/testing, availability, and of course, cost!

Any thoughts?

I'll be getting one ASAP, and posting my usual users review here and a few other places. I'm particularly excited by the MHL connectivity, which Samsung list in the official press materials specs (although curiously not in the SGS2 site). The above post confirms the SGS2 supports it, and gives lots of details about it (basically it sounds awesome).

MHL looks great! Certainly pleased about the legacy support for older HDMI based TVs

I've got the original SGS but definitely keen on the SGS II, it is apparently going to be available of 2011 for Europe and Asia, so should hopefully see it in store this month or March.

Was in the same boat, now definitely waiting for the SGSII. Any ideas on a availability date?

That's what I'm hoping for too! Laughing

I'm wondering what price the stores will charge for it? What was the original price of the SGS? around $1,300.00?

From the look of it the UK stores will be charging around NZD$1,175 (545 pounds). I still can't believe that after 7 months they're charging $999 for the SGS.

Will certainly investigate a parallel import from the UK.

Most are saying early April, it'll probably release in Korea earlier (the March timeframe that Samsung have mentioned, same thing happened last year with the original SGS).

After checking my Gmail "fishing net" alerts for 'Galaxy S II', I've read this morning that there will be two versions of the SGS2!?!

Anandtech reports that there will be a Exynos version and a Tegra 2 version!

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4182/samsungs-tegra-2-superphone-the-gti9103

Apparently the Exynos version's early benchmark puts it behind the LG Optimus 2X Tegra 2 based phone.

Either way, both will be an excellent upgrade from my beloved N95.

Yea, for the last fw months I have been looking for my first android phone but after hearing about MWC I decided to wait, and I am glad I did.  I was actually wating to see about this HTC Pyramid but it looks like it will be released later this year.  So I will probably try for the SGS2.

I thought it was about 480 pound or something? It seems to be dropping before it is even released.  Which from what I have been reading will be late Feburary for Europe and Asia (we classes as Asia?) :D  Which is amazing if it is true.

As for the different SoC's I believe the one with the tegra 2 will be called the i9103 as opposed to the i9100.  I would prefer to have the tegra as it seems to be the most popular and faster im most respects, however it looks like it wont come out first?  Also I hear reports of them getting quite hot so I will be interested to see if anyone has any problems before buying.  AND (sorry just getting opinions here) the videos I have seen on youtube of it show most of them to be a bit laggy flicking around homescreens...  is that just prerelease driver? if so they are cutting it close to the supposed release date...

Thanks, cool thread

I noticed that too. I'm assuming it's a combination of pre-release drivers (as you say), neon lighting, recording devices used, and video encoding. They were demonstrating with pre-production phones, so fingers crossed that the software engineers have been busy since they were made for MWC.

A parallel import online store in the UK were offering SGS II on preorder for 550 pounds but it only ships to select countries in EU.

The website have since taken the price off.

I was going to wait for one but decided to get a 2nd hand Galaxy S instead. That way I won't lose so much when the time comes to unload it (relative to a new one) and it will give me something to use until these (S2, Atrix, etc) are available, cheaper and proven reliable. My GPS works flawlessly BTW.
