My biggest issue across the board with the nz market is no one is having a 512gb variant but Australia its available, i cant understand that why in 2020 there is such a market gap , its kinda disappointing.

well if not many bought the 512 GB s10/plus, then this happens. it's not up to them to please one person unfortunately.

Hey guys, just been in Australia and saw they had the s20 ultra leather case in blue, does anyone know how to get a hold of them in NZ as I've seen we only have the leather case in black.

Check with @NikT I think. PB may get more of these cases hopefully :)

Supplier doesn't have any ETA for official cases at the moment - from memory I don't think the blue is due to be ranged locally.

I was surprised when I went to pre-order the Ultra that I could only get the 128Gb model, was a tad gutted.

GSM Arena posted up a little mini-comparison of the Ultra's cameras vs. Note10 and P30 Pro. Interestingly, but probably not surprisingly, they were actually seem quite close in quality, with the higher zoom failing to deliver usable photos; I guess the different "opinions" on image processing is where more noticeable differences appear.

Early days for the Ultra's camera yet though, I imagine it will see some software improvements post-release.

So has anyone done the $200 discount from 2degrees and cancel the plan immediately trick?

emenent7426:

One of my friend did this for his Iphone XS. According to him, It is mandatory to keep the 2D package for at-least 3 months to avail the 200$ discount.

But what T&C said this? There tends to be a lot of misleading info quoted including from 2degrees reps or seller reps. But if you actually look at the T&C there is no such minimum period. I had a look for related deals and cannot find any such minimum or requirement to repay the discount for any new phones on 2degrees. (For Spark yes. Can't remember what it's like for Vodafone.)

Review of the S20 Ultra up on GSM Arena.

Looks like they are still using the ultrasonic FP reader and sounds like it has the same usability issues that plagued the S10.

Also looks like you will be wanting to use the 60hz refresh if you want to eek out your battery life, there was a fair amount of difference between the two. All together, battery life is only ok, but not as decent as you would expect for a 5000mah battery. At least they have bumped up the standard charge rate.

The main cameras look about par for the course with Samsung, but the 100x Space zoom seems like typical marketing hyperbole right now. It is at it's best at 4x, but gets progressively worse from there. At 100x, if you had something that was slightly outside of your (non-20/20) visual range, you might be able to use it to maaaayyyybbbeeee see it a tiny bit clearer, but you aren't gonna be taking any high quality photos in the bushes, creeper.

I must admit, I was tempted by the Ultra, but not anymore for the price, given most of the good points are shared in the regular and plus S20s. Will be interesting to see how the other two perform and what sort of deals go on...

edit: Guess they are listening to the early feedback on the cameras though

Most reviews seem to be fairly similar to what ShinyChrome summarised there, and often in reviews I see they mention it's too big and too expensive.

I placed my order just now, but worry that the Ultra will be like 50% off in a few months with those kind of reviews. Either way though, I'm upgrading from a Note 3, so I'm sure I'll love the new phone, and it's only about 1cm taller than the Note 3 so I'm sure I'll get used to that. A fair bit heavier though.

Wow, you have held on to the Note 3 for a while without giving into temptation each year. I wish I could be as disciplined as you.

It's going to be a massive upgrade for you, mind the pun!

Coming from a Note 3 is a much bigger jump than my Note 9, so honestly the Ultra will still be a massive upgrade over what you have.

I don't think it will get near that much price erosion being the highest model on the stack and I would expect it to be a fairly low volume seller, so maybe a few minor discounts next sales holiday. And they always release a couple of updates that improve things post-launch.

If you are not entirely attached to the S20 and 5g, I reckon the Note10+ would still be a good buy for the price (although the 10+ 5g seems to be about the same price), but at the end of the day, the S20 Ultra still represents a whole lot of phone for the money.

Ah haha, many of those years I was a student so I had to choose my spending wisely. Previous to the Note 3 I had a Galaxy S II. These days the Note 3 doesn't look out of place with it's huge size, but back then it was considered a monster :D Being able to peel off the back and change the battery amazes people though. I'm especially looking forward to the upgraded camera with the S20.

ShinyChrome: I remember the top level S10+ being half price at PB’s Black Friday sale, but that’s a long time to wait to see if they repeat the special again.

cokeman2: Yeah thankfully I got student pricing as my wife works for Canterbury Uni.

Agreed. I am going to predict the sale numbers are low due to the lack of Google services out of the box and they will want to move it somehow.
