mckenndk: I am having all sorts of issues with my SGSII.

The car mode for the voice recognition keeps starting up randomly, Voice talk (usually accessed by pressing the home key twice) randomly comes up and it goes into MTP application mode (when you plug in the USB to do stuff with kies) at its own free will with no usb cable or wifi connection at all.

When I receive calls it starts in Speaker mode and after you switch it back it will randomly during the conversation go back into speaker mode witch is a pain.

I have factory reset the phone and removed the SD card but the problem still persists.

I have emailed Techbrands when I bought the phone from and am awaiting a resoponse from them on were to go from here.

Any Ideas?

Have you tried a new odin ROM flash?

If so, and you still get the issues, i'd say it's faulty. Warranty it before it's too late.

Could this also be a candidate for foreign objects in the usb port? It is pretty easy to get fluff and other tiny debris in there and it has been the cause of numerous unrelated issues before (as reported on XDA).

More than possible. Moisture, dust, etc in the usb or headphone sockets could cause all sorts of trouble. Puzzles me why Samsung didn't have sliders for those ports...

But somehow I think his problems go deeper than that. If it was a simple as what you suggest, I think every one of use would have had the same trouble at some point with our phones. But it seems rare.

True, but still worth checking before sending it away...

I gave the USB port a dust out, the problems did not go away but are not as constant.
The new issue that has arrived is that it freezes ever few hours and you have to take the battery out to get it going again.

When calling people it is not always coming up on speaker phone now but randomly turning on speaker phone during the conversation.

Crazy stuff

I'd have sent it back weeks ago.

You might have installed an app that does this.

In my case I fixed it by uninstalling an app that did prank calls. Never again touched any low quality apps.

I'm a heavy user with a phone from the first batch (had it since May 10th) and I've noticed nothing yet. I haven't heard or read anything about it either, now I'm curious!

Edit:
Spelling...

Hey did anyone notice KG6 modem was better than current KH3?

Or anyone know which modem is better suited for NZ?

Now that you've mentioned it I won't be able to keep it from the back of my mind!!

For me KH3 was not good. My wifi reception was worse, to the extent that I switched back to KG6. With a new rom I'm now on the KI3 modem and that's performing better. As far as cellular reception goes I didn't notice any difference though.

I've been using LeoMar75's Kitchen app to try different modems - very easy. :)

I completly wiped the phone and it still did it so it was not an app doing it.

I followed the instructions on one of the forums posted eariler to clean out the USB socket area, once doing this it did not stop the problems completely but the problem was not occuring anywhere near as much as it was.

I cleaned it a second time yesterday and have not had a problem since so that looks to be what caused the issue.

Lol yea i'm on that rom as well. Its crazy how many 'thanks' points that guy got in a very short time. Geniusness to come up with a userfriendly kitchen app aye!

So I should definitely install the latest modem? It showed up on my kitchen but didn't wanna risk anything.

KG5 is the best IMO (it's actually newer than KG6) - I'm running KI3 currently, and it's good. . . but too good in a way (massive signal strength, but correspondingly bigger battery usage I think).

Off-topic a bit, but I'm running the RC3 iteration of Siyah's kernel. . . top stuff!  Noticeably snappier than other kernels (maybe due to Smartass governor), and the best battery life I've found so far from the UC/UV kernels.

I found KI3 to be pretty much the same as KG6, just wanted to try it to see how it worked.

I'm actually on CheckRom v3.5 (Black Chrome theme), but use the kitchen app for modems and kernels. It also works with Lite'ning rom and DarkyRom2. It's a fantastic app and I've linked to it quite a few times, never actually tried the rom though!

I'm hearing good things about Siyah kernel.

So if I want to go on it, just download that kernel and flash like any other kernel using kitchen app and i'm good to go?

Just asking because I tried to uv/oc and played around with voltage settings but my phone didnt like it ( or i was just too sucky at it lol) for example my phone never 'woke up' after going to 'sleep' so i decided to stick with pre built kernels.

Siyah's kernel, do I need to change any settings to get its awesomness or is it good to go out of the box?

I just flashed it using CWM manager (Flash Kernel). It's not in the kitchen at the moment.

I'm running the following SetCPU settings:

200:800/SmartassV2 and screen off profile 200:500/Ondemand.

Also undervolted 100mv on all settings. Only been running this since this morning though, but working perfectly well so far.
