Hmmm the timestamp issue I mentioned seems to be another basic issue that Google avoid fixing:

Hopefully in Gingerbread I guess.

lokhor: Not fussed about csc. Can you link to the extended power menu you saw?

Here you are lokhor, someone has posted it in the forum, it wasn't on the first few posts.

nofam: Yes it's rather strange how slow Titanium is compared to a CWM backup; I'd hate to think how long it takes for people with 300+ apps!!! :-)

Bugger me!  It's still going.  Right, no time left in the day to get 2.1/v9 installed.  I hope to goodness when I get up in the morning the backup is finished!

I was too tired to have cottoned on to the thing I'd overlooked last night.  At 3am Titanium was saying "please wait".  Crikey, that's 5 hours of patience.  Then I realised that I should have put debugging on - just like I have to when I'm installing the apps/data using Titanium.  After putting debugging on it was done lickety split.

Duly noted :-)

Have you done the Froyo->Eclair->Froyo dance yet?  And do you happen to have a link for the JM8 build you were going to use?

Hi everyone,

I am new to all this but very enthu to get my teeth in this one. I have just 1 week old Galaxy S with no lag fix and on Stock formware. I am on Telecom XT network. Tried to do a OCLF lagfix but went wrong and hard reset my phone using 3 button combo and then master reset from within the phone. I read many treads (on XDA the site rocks) and will be doing the voodoo lagfix (beta4-I9000 - hope this is the right one?) Before I do anything I wish to have a copy of the stock 2.1 firmware but was not able to find any on the internet (have looked at SAMFIRMWARE.com & Wuala.com) which matches myone. Is there anywhere else I can lookfor it and also is there a way to backup the orignal ROM? All response appreciated.

Just sync'd with Appbrain and a whole lot of apps updated so I've just re-run TB so that I can get on with it.  Battery back up to full.

I'm following the instructions given by nfye.  Downloading JM8 takes a bit of time, it's a huge file.

I don't know where they're hiding the NZ stock firmwares.  If you root your phone download ROM manager from the market (free app) and the click the top line to install Clockwork so that you can then take a backup of your phone (scroll down and you'll see the backup option).  That's the only way I know of.  There might be other ways using ADB or some other tool.  Others may comment ...

Ahhh. . .so are you doing via Odin?

Must admit, that program scares me somewhat - I have found a JM8 on Sam-firmwares (XWJM8) that has the code/modem in a zip package. . . .Is Odin preferable to a CWM zip-based install in some way?

I have the AT&T Captivate variant of the Galaxy S. Won't be too many of us here with this phone, so I'll stay in the friendly neighbourhood of this thread, as the experiences will be very similar.

Is creating a backup via clockwork rom manager the same as a full on ROM? Maybe the experts on this thread can confirm.

Edit: Just saw Neets reply, sounds like worth a try.

Still on my way there.  Little hiccup with the Multi CSC thing giving me an error.  I'm on 2.1 but now I'm going to fix the CSC before flashing v9.  Almost there.

BTW, must have my HR in control these days, before that error would have had me crapping my pants.  But I've just calmly gone round the threads until I've found what I need.  So onto the next step.

Just so you know, I don't consider myself an expert Embarassed

Don't sell yourself short - the skill is getting yourself back out of the crap if you find yourself in it!!

Quite happy to pay you to write a wee FAQ on the upgrade/fix-any-uh-oh's-as-they-happen process. . . .

I've been taking notes of the steps I've taken.

The phone is on V9, I've just been fluffing about making it look the same (the result of going back to 2.1 and factory resetting).

The CSC is still the only thing that's not resolved. After adding the CSC via Odin and getting the update.zip applied (to give CWM) I still had a multiCSC vs. my OPS mismatch.

Now I'm trying to apply (via CWM) the OPS.zip file that I got from here.  It's just sitting there.  I presume it's doing something but there's no visual way of knowing.  Ho hum.

Yes, the product code is correct.  All set up on V9 (without lag fix) with tweaks 1, 2, and 3 (not MISC) and auto killer set to strict.

Phone looks like my phone again :)

BUT ... man it's laggy!  Imagine setting everything back up with all that stuttering, delay and sluggishness.  I expected it would be humming along like it was on the earlier version I had.

I thought it might have been due to now yet having auto killer and tweaks enabled but that hasn't seemed to make any difference.

The Media scanner is pee'ing me off.  That of course is the cause for the delay on start up.  But even after that's complete there's still lag.

I'm going to have to apply a lag fix.  I'm surprised others are running without any lag fix.  Makes me wonder what's different.

I've even gone and deleted some "safe" *.apk files that aren't needed by me (or the phone).
