Nice was my only worry with going to 2° really. Though it was a shame to loose my 3gb of data a month

Installed 4.4.2 (official OTA) on my brothers One tonight (formerly mine, a super CID test device that tends to get firmwares early in roll outs). Anyone else getting it? Not kept up with One happenings after selling mine.

Mine's not showing any update available yet (Vodafone).

I'm still not sure if KitKat is an update that I should accept. Is this the one that makes your phone always listen for voice commands (Okay Google)? Is that a good thing (not battery so much, but concerns about privacy).

Thoughts?

Which software variant was it? I assume the European unlocked one that has been rolling out since yesterday?

This is a feature of the Google Experience Launcher which only shipped with the Nexus 5 although you can sideload it (best Android launcher IMO). It can be turned off.

Yeah, NZTechfreak said it was on a device with super CID so it's not a vodafone release.

So the GPE image for the One doesn't include GEL? I'd always assumed it did...

OK Google is limited to US english US, so not even an option if you have language set to NZ english, also my understanding is that Google Now only listens when in the Google Now screen is open on the screen, i could be wrong but it was the only way i could get it to function :P

I was running GPe 4.4.2 with sideloaded GEL however changed to KK Launcher which appears to function the same but with a few more customization niceities

Nexus 5 only. Google said something along the lines of they were testing it on those before a mass release.

With a true GPe conversion, you only get US and UK as language options when you first set the phone up. I set it to UK, have Swype as my input anyway. In Gnow settings you change the voice language to English US and enable hotword detection and it works from the launcher as shown for the Nexus 5.

Here is my homescreen...

Hi all - quick question... Where's a good place to get a 64GB ONE from for XT? Time to upgrade the faithful ONE X. Thanks for the input.

Not sure myself sorry, but if you wait a couple of weeks, the new HTC One 2014 will be announced. I imagine it won't be actually available until around April though, so it just depends if you want the latest and greatest, and how long you are willing to wait.

Looking forward to this release, probably won't upgrade for a while but interesting rumors regarding dual rear camera and what it might mean techwise

Thanks Zub and Wade. No major hurry. A good plan to wait in any case as the 2014 will see a few ONEs on the market for less.

Cheers, gb

Just reading an article showing the latest screen shot for the M8. It shows a redesigned blinkfeed and software buttons (a la Nexus). A slightly larger screen as well. And the previously mentioned dual camera. Not sure about doing away with hardware buttons, but I'm sure you would adapt quickly enough. And Iit is probably closer to the android design philosophy anyway.
I was going to skip this generation, but reading reports of the state of HTCs books, I may have to get it, because there may not be an M8+ or M9.
Also mentioned briefly was an HTC smartwatch, with claims to have 'solved the battery dilemma'. I'm hoping it is stylish, in keeping with the beauty of the One. At least if I get one I will be confident it will work with my One out of the box. Unless HTC do something dumb (Samsung-like) and pair it exclusively with the M8.............
