I know it has been said numerous times before, but HTC has really really missed the boat on this one. You would think it would of launched all over the world by now and they they would of had enough stock lined up. SGS4 is going to be out before the one at this rate, people tossing up between the two will go for SGS4. What a shame.

Yep, HTC has blown their own foot off with this one. No one to blame but themselves when the numbers are in and they are below expectation. They really could have stolen a march on the S4 and Samsung by getting this to market. Instead they are continuing to take the piss with constant delays.

At this rate we won't see it in NZ until 2014.

Still going to wait until both the One and S4 are in country so I can hold and play with both before deciding.

Now that Telecom have announced their LTE start date, exactly where does that leave the One handsets that are coming into the country?

Clove have updated the HTC One page. Couple of days ago they were saying silver phone orders would be shipped 7-14 days, now its 14-21 days. Black was Due April 10th (I think they said?) now its due early May. What a shambles.

I just want to know on contract pricing from Vodafone and Telecom so I can decide whether I wait for the release or look to purchase something else.

The review anandtech gave it is the most glowing review of a cell phone I've ever read. But if HTC aren't going to get their act together, or Vodafone and Telecom aren't going to play ball then I will at other options.

The verge gave 6/10 for camera whereas Anandtech simply loved it.

That might be true of the Verge review, since they used it for a whole 36 hours before posting their review (stated differently: rubbish review, ignore it). Won't be true of other review sites like GSMArena however.

Perhaps.. It sounds like most of the disparity in camera opinion comes down to comparing a 100% crop between the htc and other higher mp cameras and then comparing a full image as its displayed on a normal screen.

The heavy zooms / crops make the one look quite poor, as there just aren't enough pixels.... But the full pictures, especially the indoor / low light shots are where you see the benefits of the 'ultrapixel' design.

By the looks of it tho there's very little overall advantage in the one camera over say the iPhone 5 or the S4 in any situation, apart from the much lower file size. But for the dinner / drinks / party shots you're uploading to Facebook it might very well be the best choice.

Maybe take your 'real' camera on your bush walks and holidays tho :)

Always ignore the Verge, they are a second rate publication who wants to be like Engadget. They are hasty to post stuff and often say misleading or sensationalist things deliberately. Its why Polygon became a separate publication rather than stay under Verge because they had a falling out over how it was run (or so im told).

The Verge recently slammed the Ouya and they had to run a follow up article because both fans and Ouya hit back.

TLDR: don't listen to a word the Verge says. if in doubt check Engadget or Gawker

Engadget has generally been worse than the Verge in the past, although there are some signs of them getting their act together. I still wouldn't place any great stock in their reviews either.

I would listen to Anandtech, GSMarena...and even amazon user reviews.

Other sites i check out are BGR, 9to5mac and 9to5google.

I think its best to judge for yourself. I usually read up reviews from all these different sites and if they are all in unison, then you are safe.

I dont think there is one ultimate source of truth though

Had a few days checking the phone out.
I bought it really for my partner rather for myself, but so far apart from the silly "so what the difference compared to my old one" it's been thumbs up.
Having tested the camera myself I would not rely exclusively on it.
The biggest ambiguity is stemming from the actual size of the pics.
The old One X had 8Mpixs, this one has 4. This translates into a smaller image.
When you view that on your PC the larger one will look slightly better initially. This is because it's shrunk to the same screen size as the 4. But once you view it pixel by pixel the new One truly stands out.
Much more detail and more natural colours.

I know that other people's opinions cannot replace your own feeling for it.
But so far the experience has been very positive.
I will post more pics to give you a bit more of an idea.
