I've got a Pixel 6 Pro on Skinny and no 5G, I reached out to Skinny support on Monday asking to check everything was provisioned \ setup for 5G on my account. Linked them to https://pixel.withgoogle.com/5G/ and a Geekzone thread where 5G hasn't been activated on Skinny accounts in the past, and required reaching out to support. Gave all the details about the June update on Pixels and 5G now working on this phone and Skinny aparently. This was before gajan stated doing the magic. Support told me I "might not be in 5G coverage sometimes" and that I could "buy a new sim and transfer my number if I wanted" instead of any actual understanding or adress of the problem. Still stuck on 4G. I feel like support completly dropped the ball and I ended up ordering a Kogan sim as the Skinny support was just utterly unable to help beyond copy pasting basic FAQs related to 5G.

They literally made me go outside to an area where I had 5g coverage before they did anything, I think its alot less trouble if you live in an area with "5g" coverage. although switching to kogan seems to be the more cost effective, with better coverage solution.

Although they did say my phone was supposed to have 5g support when they asked for my make and model of phone, and never said anything about it being unsuported on their networks which is an interesting thing to note.

Sorry if I'm not allowed to ask this as it's about the Pixel 7
a
I tried to make another thread but no one wants to answer what I'm asking. Instead telling me to buy a Samsung or iphone 😠

Does anyone have experience or know for sure that a new pixel 7a CAN get volte on spark without rooting it?

It seems that all the other late pixels are fine as per above I have a non supported Nokia that works on volte but a new phone. Volte is the only way of calling where I live and I don't care about voice over wifi or 5g

Thanks

Given that the Pixel 6, 6a and 7 all have VoLTE on all carriers in NZ, it would seem very unlikely that the 7a wouldn't also support VoLTE.

I'm hoping someone here actually has a 7a and can atest to it's volteness...otherwise it's a $900 risk

I have a Pixel 7a of two weeks standing from JB Hifi Australia (via a friend). I'm on Skinny, and the IMS settings says its not registered and does not have VoLTE capability. I haven't done the IMS patch thing, but as I'm in the city mostly I'll likely just give things a bit more time to catch up on what is a pretty newly released phone.

Did you have VoLTE working on your Skinny sim on a previous phone?
If not, you probably need to contact Skinny to have them provision VoLTE.
Also, you need to be running the June updated patch for VoLTE and 5G

According to this link
https://pixel.withgoogle.com/5G/

5G should work on Skinny with the 7a - so it should also support VoLTE

Thanks farcus, I previously had a Pixel 4a so wasn't expecting VoLTE to be provisioned by Skinny - I'll give them a bell. My Pixel 7a has the June update and the July one today.

Thanks for the info KevinF.

However I'm on Spark and I currently already DO have Volte from my local cell tower on an unsupported nokia 7.2.

It's just I want to buy a new Pixel athe s Nokia experience leaves a lot to be desired

My cell tower is an RCG towe that is spark/One NZ/2Degrees combined. It's 700mHz 4g only.

Skinny tech person wasn't able to do anything at their end - says its all about the network settings on the Pixel 7a (which are all present and correct as far as I can see). Not convinced but not making any progress with arguing with them either!

Sorry it probably doesn't add much more to your question Abusername!

No, that's nonsense.
Contact gajan on here and see if he can sort it for you.

Similar to my above experience. Kinda rough that the only way to get support is not by contacting support but to pm someone on a random public forum.

Looks like Android 14 beta 4 has enabled wifi calling on my Pixel 7 Pro with Spark. I haven't used it yet, but the option to enable it showed up last night after my update.
