So far Mobicity have been good with communication, though I think a lot of it is automated. Every day I get an email saying we need to talk to you about your order, we tried to contact you, but no messages have been left, no missed calls registered, and today I got a message similar and they aren't even operating today.

As far as I can tell, there is no NZ presence, it's all redirected to Australia.

K1000716: Please accept my most sincere apologies if I offended you, but as stated it is very common.
Telecom for me are the best of what is on offer, but I would rather take my business elsewhere. They are far too inflexible at times and value for money can be debated, but they do offer great convenience (phone, internet, tivo, and 2 cellphones on one bill). I am not going to buy a SIM, they will give it to me (get ≠ buy).

On the plus side sometime next week I'll be holding a smoking hot handset that can happily switch between any NZ network I can choose, with no binding contracts or bloatware to slow me down. I can't wait.

My contribution was on-topic, unlike yours. I suggest you read paragraph paragraph two of the FUG.

Ha ha, no offense taken on my part, I couldn't actually care less what you decide to call companies. I was merely trying to be helpful.

Their IP address resolves back to Hong Kong. No such company registered in NZ.

It's possible that they tried to call once, and you've been getting emails every day since. I'd definitely give them a call, because they may need to confirm your delivery address or something like that. I had to do this, because I used my home as my billing address and my work's address for delivery.

I haven't heard much from Mobicity. After confirming my delivery address, the only thing I've heard was Thu last week when they said the phones won't ship with an NFC chip. Hopefully the phone arrives soon and I don't need to hear anything more from them!

I had two missed calls when I placed my order, and then another two e-mails, but that was mid March. Once I confirmed the order there was only a couple of updates regarding the spec changes (processor upgrade/spec confirmation, NFC removal).
When I did call to confirm the order the person I spoke to had an Australian accent, even though the missed numbers were from the Auckland region. I guess that's a function of the call forwarding system they use then, or do they actually have someone at a call center here...?

K1000716: Then I'd better go get a SIM from telecsum...

ROFL - you can't even spell your abuse properly. If that's what you think of them, why will you buy a SIM card from them?

You may also want to consider throwing out an apology before a moderator jumps on you - have another look at the FUG you agreed to - specifically item 5...

LOL Overreact much? Hardly even an insult, it's the most commonly used name for them I know of.

There's no overreaction. Calling a company names is not acceptable in this forum and it is a breach of FUG.

K1000716: Please accept my most sincere apologies if I offended you, but as stated it is very common.

Regardless if that's common, it is not acceptable here on Geekzone.

Not quite. His contribution was on topic, a friendly reminder of the FUG. You folks on the other hand decided to gang up on him.

This is a warning to both networkn and K1000716.

vinnieg: I think it might be Tuesday their time now?  Due to the 2nd May(Bank holiday in the UK)

Just checked the Clove web site, and they will reopen at 9am on Tue 3rd May (which is 8pm tomorrow night for us). Their end of day will be 4am on our Wed morning.

Clove have also noted that when they re-open they'll be extremely busy shipping out SGS2 units, and not to make any SGS2 shipping-related queries for a while. Depending on how they prioritize their shipping, and the number of orders, it could take a couple of days for phones to start winging their way here.

Update: Just saw that Clove have said they'll need around 3 days to send out all the phones:
Clove says:

It will take 3 days due to the volume of orders that we have. We would love to ship all orders the day that stock arrives but we cannot guarantee this so we are estimating 3 days to ship all orders. We have prepared as much as possible for the arrival of stock.

Yeah, I should have looked at my calendar after reading the email, I got my dates up the piss. I'm guessing they'll be shipping them as first in first served, which is fair enough. I ordered mine recently though so I wouldn't be surprised if mine doesn't ship on the first day.

They must have the post trucks lined up out front coming in and out., if its 3 days they must have a shed load of handsets coming in.

Yeah I did a search on the companies website too.  So they can't actually be done with customs fraud since they aren't an NZ Company. And they won't have to honour the NZ CGA Act.
Or the Australia Consumer Act, since they aren't registered in Australia anymore either

Since Mobicity Australia was actually de registered last year...

jahc: According to the package I received, it came from Hong Kong.

That's right, they use drop shipping.  What did the customs declaration say?  Did it say something like "Galaxy Spica $350NZD" or there abouts?

No, it listed the price and model correctly. Samsung Galaxy S, etc etc, aproximatey $910 or so.

I had an interesting chat with Mobicity today, and they confirmed no offices (just a call centre) in Brisbane, but everything is run from HK. Warranties are actually held by a service company in Australia so if MC go through, in theory warranties should be intact.

First Shipment is supposed to ship from HK on the 7th. I think I was in the second shipment, no eta yet but "not long after" was the answer.

An impressive fix time but in the end that wasn't the issue for me with the galaxy s and for many others , i don't care if i have to wait 2 minutes for the initial fix.
The problem with the galaxy s was the accuracy and keeping it while moving etc.

Has anyone seen any reviewers actually taking it for a spin in a car through a city etc?

Also, anyone heard any detailed looks at the camera quality?

If they have those two things sorted out, I'll be very tempted to upgrade though I wish they had managed to get the non pentile on a 4inch screen...
